5 stars (Helping Those Trapped in Pornography!!) - Henry Rogers doesn't pull any punches, here, in his expose of this tawdry topic, but all too common problem we have in our society. The chapters of his book include many different fronts, and cover the personal and private lives of those who have been harmed by pornography. He has included his own story, but there are some really good chapters, such as Chapter 4- She Has a Name, whereupon he cites Elis, Stefani, Amy, Kristen, and Julie, and he states that "their reason for existence is to satisfy lust, and that their names are insignificant." A truly troubling thought. Then there is Chapter 7 - VCR - Very Corrupt Rendevouz, and he states that due to the onset of this kind of technology in 98% of the homes, television permits you to be entertained in your living room by people you would not have in your home. And there is the other point that men are prone to sexual fantasy and the TV feeds their appetites quite well. Chapter 6 is another great chapter-Satan's Dynamic Duo: Hugh and Larry, and the chapter essentially focuses on Larry Flynt and Hugh Hefner. Hefner's father was apparently a descendant of William Bradford, the Pilgrim, and Flynt's parents raised him as a staunch Methodist, and while he went to college, he bought into Kinsey's teachings, hook, line, and sinker. Larry Flynt apparently met Jimmy Carter's sister, Ruth Carter Stapleton in 1977, and when he claimed to have seen the Apostle Paul on the "Hustler" jet in November, 1977, he is reported to have fallen to his knees, and Stapleton baptized him. However, he never left the pornography business. There are so many good chapters, and they're all provocative reading. Toward the end of the book, there is help for those who are seeking it, and for those who want to help. A great read, and highly recommended!!! 5 stars (A mans book written for men) - Rogers trends on ground that angels, and the rest of us, fear to go- ministering to those trapp... 4 stars (The Next Generation Leader: Five Essentials for Those Who Will Shape the Future ) - This book is for anyone who desires to be part of the next wave of God's move in North America. As a church we have a lot to catch up to (or get back to) what is life and normal to the church on other continents -- community the way it is suppose to be. 5 stars (Tested Leadership Lessons for Emerging Leaders) - Andy Stanley's purpose in writing "The Next Generation Leader" was to pass on to emerging leaders lessons learned in his own leadership experiences. The book centers on five leadership concepts. 1.Competence - Focus your time and energy in your areas of strength. 2.Courage - The leader is the one willing to take the lead. 3.Clarity - Be clear even if you are uncertain. 4.Coaching - It takes a coach to bring out your full potential. 5.Character - Character makes you a leader worth following and it provides you with moral authority. In Augustinian terms, Stanley has plundered the Egyptians, by borrowing many concepts from authors of business books and translating them into the vernacular of the minister and the world of the church. He does this with numerous examples of characters in the Bible and from his own personal life and ministry. "The Next Generation Leader" is a short, interesting, and thoughtful book designed for those beginning their leadership journey. It should also provide reminders and challenges to those who have served as leaders for some time. I highly recommend the book for emerging Christian leaders. If you are looking for a more comprehensive study of church leadership from a similar perspective I would recommend "Courageous Leadership" by Bill Hybels or "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" by John Maxwell. 3 stars (Next Gen Review) - The last section, section 5 on character, was the most encouraging part of the book. 5 stars (Good book!) - really useful if you are a backyard tinkerer and if not this is a cool little bedside book to browse through 5 stars (Perfect book for inventors and makers) - This is a dictionary for basic mechanical engineering. Schools have ruined physics and engineering by drowning the core material in math. This book is a simple "I need this motion to cause that motion handbook." If you are familiar with Arthur Ganson's sculpture, you will find many of the common joints he uses in this book. [...] I'm in electronics, and I needed a little bit of help with gears and adapting motion from motors, and this book is perfect. If you need to calculate torque or really get into the math of things get a textbook (or a real mechanical engineer). But if you like to tinker this book will open up your imagination to many different solutions. For the price you can't beat it. 5 stars (If this doesn't get you thinking....) - ...you must be dead. Simply a gem of a book. I've bought modern copies on two separate occasions to make sure I have it on hand, and I recently was lucky enough to find an 1879 copy. Apparently it was published in 1868, and by 1879 it was already into its 12th printing- couldn't happen unless a lot of people found it really useful. Buy a copy- you definitely won't regret it. ...
