No markings, and very very minimal corners bent. 5 stars (Interesting and real world scenarios) - I teach technical writing at a community college and frequently switched textbooks until I discovered Mike Markel's. It is well organized, gives 8 measures of excellence in technical writing that students quickly grasp, has very up-to-date scenarios that prompt critical reading and writing and the online quizzes and resources are the frosting on the cake. This book is a great tool for educators, students and absolutely anyone who wishes to write in a professional manner. 3 stars (Well written, over priced common sense.) - The information in the book as well as the scenarios presented are well put. Thank you. 2 stars (A textbook for college business majors (only?)) - If you want a general IT book then don't even think about buying this one, despite its title. This is a textbook for college business majors, and looks at things from the business angle. The book is less suitable for non-student readers. It is geared for use by a lecturer who can draw attention to the important concepts underlying the field of IT, and can steer students to useful supplementary material. The book races across the surface of the whole field of IT. The authors have packed in a lot of material, but at a cost. The explanations may be good enough for students to answer a quiz about the various buzzwords, but there is not enough space here to cover anything in depth. The students, and you, may be left without a clear idea of what the words really mean. At the other end of the scale, the book struggles to make plain the broad sweep of IT concepts. Although the authors try hard, ideas tend to get lost amidst the large number of factoids. One book is never going to be enough to cover all of IT. Your choices are to be more selective about which area you want to learn about, to pick a book which is more clearly aimed at being a simple overview, or to buy this book and work really hard at following up its leads to other material to fill in the gaps. ... I will change my rating, when i get to read it. 3 stars (Fun Read However Light in Research and did Aliens Really Build It All?) - I picked up this title because, well, I was intrigued by the title. I am what you call a seeker and a knowledge whore, so I picked this up hoping that it would shed some light on the mysteries of the world. I was indeed pleased with the read, however for me it read as a noval and not really a non-fiction book as it claims to be. Browne is a fascinating person and I have enjoyed some of her work, but I have a hard time with the whole belief by some in the psychic-new age community that if something cant be explained,ie stonehenge, the pyramids, etc... that well aliens must have done it, that is a very big reach to me and I have a hard time with that logic, if you can call it that. There was without a doubt a intellegance on this planet that for whatever reason was lost, and as a whole I can believe that egyptions etc... had access to a line of thought that we in a computerized society can't comprehend. This is afun read if you are looking for a light easy to read thesis by one person on the so called mysteries of the world, but not one that i can sink my teeth into. 5 stars (Really Gets You Thinking!) - Wow. This book really gets you thinking. It is a great read and opens a lot of doors for you to want to explore and research more on your own. I never heard of a "tulpa" or Lemuria but I was instantly fascinated by the information in the book from Sylvia's psychic perspective. Out of all the Sylvia Browne books I have read this one by far is the most hands on. Read with an open mind and research the information for yourself I am sure whatever you discover will be interesting and open your eyes to a world of new things and even raise more questions. 5 stars (The Return of Orthodox Catholicism) - This is an exciting, well written book, something that I was not expecting at all. I began watching and contributing to EWTN during a difficult period of my life and Mother Angelica's network is a blessing to all, but especially those who are going through hard times. This book is a terrific read about how it all came about and it spends a lot of time on her battles with certain members of the American Church hierarchy - many of whom were exposed in the 2002 sex scandals for their less-than-Catholic actions and unconscionable lack of leadership. Mother Angelica is the primary figure in the ongoing renaissance of orthodox Catholicism among the laity and, equally important, in the seminaries. Mother Angelica and EWTN are providing wonderful tools for taking back our Church from what Raymond Arroyo (charitably) calls the "progressives" in the USCCB and their bureaucracies. What a wonderful book! It makes me ready to join the fight! 5 stars (BUY THIS BOOK) - This is one of the most exciting, well written biographies to come out in a very long time. Its about an underprivileged woman who became a cloistered nun and changed the world. Mother Angelica is a woman who somehow balanced real orthodoxy with brilliant management vision and skill without what seems any worldly qualifications whatsoever. Moreover, here's is a story of overcoming great suffering -- both physical and emotional -- and allowing God to transform her life without ever looking back or counting the cost. (It's worth noting too this is no saccharine sweet nun's story, to be sure!) This wonderful biography really shows us she is "The Patron Saint of CEOs" -- and patron of anyone else who by God's grace, must overcome a legion of what seem like insurmountable problems. 5 stars (Excellent book but could use a better index) - This book is OUTSTANDING. America's Test Kitchen is like the Consumer Report's of recipes and cooking products. I enjoy learning WHY certain products and techniques work. They try and try until they get a particular recipe to be the best it can be. Then they share what they learned. The one disappointing aspect of this book is the Table of Contents and indexes. For example each "chapter" contains several recipes, but you have to go to the chapter in order to see what all the recipes are within that chapter. But the book is so very excellent that I can forgive this flaw. 5 stars (But use your own judgment) - I absolutely love ATK and buy all of their books. The techniques they present are top notch and as close to bulletproof as you can get. I find the spicing a little mild for my tastes so I usually amp that up a bit. Tasting results are the aggregated opinion of several people so some of the more unusual flavors you might get a kick out of may be rounded out in the math. 4 stars (An Excellent Companion to The PBS Series.) - America's Test Kitchen Live is up to the franchise's usual standards. If you are a fan of the PBS series you will want these faithfully produced scripts for the TV version. The recipes are well perfected to make sure the home chef can produce consistent mouth watering results for family and friends. If you have ever tweaked a recipe until you got it just right, you will love the approach of Chris Kimball and company. They save the home cooking enthusiast a lot of time and energy by doing the tweaking for them. The products tested in this volume range from infomercial gadgets to common necessary kitchen tools used under a range of conditions. The pretty well detailed test results not only offer the best and worst culinary utensils in any category but a lot of the near misses along with their costs.
