There are many tools on the market today that allow you to securely encrypt your files. They all have the same downside, though. They require an extra operation to be performed when you encrypt or decrypt your file. Here are the two common scenarios: You edit a document and save it to a file. Then you encrypt this file with your encryption program. And vise versa. You decrypt a file and then view/edit it in your text processor... 4 stars (Good for the Technically Challenged ) - What I like about this software is that it does not come with too many "gadgets." At my age, I am "technically challenged." So this software worked out fine for me with my limited computer skills. I also like the fact that this software covers Castilian Spanish. It is probably the only course available that exclusively covers Castilian Spanish in such depth since Pimsleur and Learning Like Crazy only offer Latin American Spanish courses. The downside of this software is that you will not learn much Spanish grammar with it. If you want to learn the rules and mechanisms required to combine words and form sentences in Spanish, you will have to buy a good Spanish grammar book. For that I strongly recommend Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners by Avigail Azoulay, Arie Vicente. It is more expensive than other Spanish grammar books but it is well worth the money. ... 2 stars (It may be effective for some, but it is not the program for me) - Rosetta Stone was the first Spanish language program that I had tried. (I have previously studied French, Latin, and ancient Greek.) I ordered it from the company directly but returned it after about a month. It has some interesting unique features but it was not for me. Here are the positives: 1. The pictures are colorful and memorable and will help you learn many words quickly. 2. There is an interesting effective feature which allows you to listen to a word or phrase in Spanish, record your voice, and playback. Then a scale tells you how close your voice came to that of a native speaker. But I would not spend extensive time repeating the same word or phrase because it is very difficult to meet their standard for "native speaker." These are the negatives: 1. There is a great emphasis on sentences that are not practical for an adult tourist, business person, or employee wanting to speak Spanish with native speakers. In addition, most of the sentences have verbs in the present progressive tense; there is not enough practice in all the Spanish verb tenses. There are many sentences in Spanish about boys under the table, girls walking, women waving, and men falling. 2. Because I work at a computer all day at work, I am not motiviated to sit at a computer for long during my spare time. Because I am eager to learn useful Spanish quickly, Pimsleur is more effective for me. I can listen to the CDs in my car or at home. In addition, I have learned more sentences that I may want to use such as how to find a bathroom, restaurant, or pharmacy; or how to order food. Rosetta Stone may be a good program for a child who likes to use the computer or an individual who has never studied Romance languages before. 5 stars (rosetta stone spanish) - this program is wonderfull for anyone that want to learn any spanish.I seen many other programs but by far this is the best.it cost more b... 5 stars (The Best Way I've Found!) - I cannot say enough about this program. You don't even have to try to start learning. Lessons fly by and once I've learned a word, I think about it automatically, instead of trying to make associations with how the word sounds or something. (Example: instead of thinking "Rice... think of an arrow going into a bowl of rice... oh, yeah, Arroz" - I just see rice and think arroz. I'm not translating from English to Spanish, I'm thinking in Spanish. When I had to take Spanish classes (required for classroom credit) I found that not only did the little I had done in Rosetta Stone helped me excel, but that my pronunciation was unbeatable because I had been constantly using the Rosetta Stone program. While other students struggled to put together sentences, I said sentences almost as quickly as if I were speaking in English, because this program does that - It Helps You THINK in Spanish! This is not because I am any smarter than anyone else; historically in classes I have been an unremarkable student. I personally didn't use the voice recognition part as much, but it also helped. It wasn't as much that I was exactly copying the voice as it was the fact that I could hear how it was supposed to be pronounced and compare it to my own recording. You can get through each lesson very quickly, so there isn't really much reason to get bored with it. There is also, fortunately, some review, but not so much that it is overkill. Obviously you can spend as much or as little time as you want on each lesson. I've been in languages classes and programs (and hated them) for years, and this is the first effective way I have learned to speak a foreign language. I plan to continue in Spanish, and eventually work my way into other languages using Rosetta Stone. 2 stars (Rosetta Stone may be effective for some but it is not the program for me) - Rosetta Stone was the first Spanish language program that I had tried. 5 stars (The Dynamic Immersion method really works!) - This is a great package! You get two CD-Roms, i.e. the application disk and the Course CD-Rom, a User's Guide book and the curriculum textbook with complete transcriptions of each exercise. The Dynamic Immersion method is fantastic. You learn a new language by playing with pictures, and little by little you learn new words, then simple phrases and finally more elaborate structures. The score you see on the screen helps you to improve by playing. In no time you realize to know lots of new words and phrases. I can only recommend you to buy it! Enjoy. 3 stars (Not very good) - If I hadn't studied Swahili already, I would have found it utterly confusing after just a few lessons. As an intermediate student, however, it was fairly good for revision, but not worth the hefty price - had I been unwise enough to purchase it instead of trying the demo at Rosetta Stone's website. The first problem with it is that the language and pronunciation is very stilted and unnatural: it is technically accurate, but no native speaker would speak like this. More to the point, it doesn't accurately explain the noun classes of Swahili. I know it aims to do away with memorization and drill, but it becomes needlessly hard when one insists on learning a bantu language without first learning the various noun classes. Later on you're going to have difficulty figuring out why it's "ndege inaruka" and "vitu vitatu vinatoka" whereas it's "watu watatu wanatoka" and so on and so forth. I only tried the online version so I don't know if the CD comes accompanied by a grammar book. If it does, all good and great, but consider getting some Pimsleur lessons to smooth out that pronunciation. ... 5 stars (Good item, poor service) - The item I purchased is great, but it was very difficult to get it since I am overseas and had to send it home then send it out again!!! Would suggest this product to anyone, but would not suggest someone buying it from amazon if they are out of the country. Regards TJ 5 stars (Rosetta Stone Spanish Level 1&2 Personal Edition (Latin America)) - I bought this product for my two kids, ages 6 and 8. It has been very user friendly and my kids enjoy using it. It does not teach grammar, per se, but my kids pick it up. They need no help from me to do their lessons, and are learning good pronunciation. I am very satisfied with the program and would recommend it particularly for children. 5 stars (The Best Way I've Found!) - I cannot say enough about this program.
