U.S. movies are sooo bad -- and have been for decades -- because the form attracts so many pinheads. Particularly on the screen"writing" side, but also(see Ovie) on the production side. Final Draft 7.0(and all previous versions) is part of that mountain of [****] which has attracted the screen"writing" flies for years. I'm talking about Mount Fake -- you know: Sid/Syd Field, Robert McKee, coast-to-coast screen"writing" classes, classes in movie bizness, movie plodding, screen"writers" singles networks, ad nauseum. Sadly -- because of the medium's primary post in our culture, and because of its glorious U.S. past --, it seems to especially appeal to loners who know nothing of the world yet have no sensibility in the cave of their loneliness. No one, of course, who had ambitions to be a real writer, would go anywhere near a piece of software dreck like this. What true creator, in any field, would let a company such as Final Draft Inc. dictate such things as spacing, structure, font. No kind. So why the popularity of this product? Because the screen"writing" wad in the land of the free are made up of weenies who couldn't put together an elegant sentence if their lives depended on it. The ... 1 stars (Quirky program made useless by copy protection) - Buyer beware: Final Draft incorporates an archaic copy protection scheme that will drive you nuts. Every other category of computer software did away with this kind of user-unfriendly copy protection scheme in the mid-80s, but the screenwriting software vendors persist. You're probably better off using Microsoft Word (which is far more robust) and using a simple formatting utility when you're project is finished. If you have any hard drive crashes or hardware upgrades and you forget to de-install Final Draft you will lose your install keys. Tech support is scarce and the online help system is only good for the most basic information. While it should make your life simpler this product will make your life hell. Avoid it like the plague. 5 stars (Best investment I've made for writing.) - I purchased Final Draft a couple of years ago, and it was the best investment for writing I've made yet. I had loads of story ideas in my head, but had no idea how to write a screenplay or teleplay, and didn't have the patience to read a book about it. I am a VERY basic computer user and feared formatting software would be nothing short of a nightmare, but within a month I formatted three one-hour teleplays, started on a screenplay, and knew how to navigate the software fairly well. The Smart-type feature is a lifesaver, and the various view, outline, and report features are incredibly helpful and save loads of time. There are a few features that were more complicated to learn, and as an absolute novice I had some questions that I couldn't find answers for in the program, but overall - I'm thrilled with it and use it everyday. I'd recommend this software to anyone, rank amateur or paid professional ,who's looking for a user-friendly, helpful, and reliable formatting system. 5 stars (There's a reason the whole world uses it -- it's the best) - Final Draft is simply the best there is. 3 stars (To Leonard Snerdley) - First, this isn't a review of this product. I've seen alot of ridiculous things on the internet, but I came across the review by Leonard Snerdley that I just couldn't believe. Here's a quote from sNerdley "It's helped me realize that I really am a truly gifted writer...". I don't think I've seen someone that full of themselves...ever. Another quote, "But for us creative types, I guess that's not needed - we've always got new and fresh ideas!" Seriously, tell me you're kidding. Apparently not, he keeps going with "This type of thing is mainly for those of us who truly have a future in the business, not the pretenders." (sound of one man throwing up). This has to be a joke, right?! How can someone be so full of themselves while being so condescending towards everyone else on the planet that "should consider another hobby or long-term project". Looking at some of this person's other reviews I can see this guy apparently thinks he's the greatest thing in the world. His profile even screams insecure wannabe talent with "I also seem to be a lone voice of critical reason in a sea of hyperbole." I feel like I'm reading something written by Dr. Timothy Leary...one person can not seriously be this conceited and full of themselves?! 5 stars (Just might make you rich!) - For anyone who knows me, it's no secret that I would love to be a screenwriter. Will that dream ever happen? Who knows, but until it does I'm content to practice what I feel is my true gift, reviewing. But while I'm honing my craft as a reviewer, hoping to be published one day, I still like to work on my other dreams, like screenwriting (and stand-up comedy). 4 stars (A JUMP START TO MY WRITING) - I looked to this product to give me a little push and shove into writing more and organizing my thoughts. So far, it has worked out pretty well for me. It has made me consider in more detail my character developments and conflicts. Don't expect it to write for you, but if you are looking for some organization it is well worth the price. 1 stars (Junk.) - I suggest saving yourself the $34.49 and instead investing in a Bickpen and one of those little black journals we used in school. All this program is good for is keeping a record of character, plot and motivation. Frankly, all you need is a couple pieces of paper for that. 2 stars (Restrictive and time-consuming) - The problem with most novel-writing software I've been testing is that they involve a lot of "writing before the writing." While some planning is good, the amount of data entry these programs require detract from getting actual pages written, and the reality is that all those plans will likely change as you write anyway. This program is no exception. I find all the initial set-up to be cumbersome without yielding benefits that might ultimately actually streamline my process in the weeks or months ahead. (By contrast, for example, Final Draft - a screenwriting program - stores your characters' names so that you only need to type the first few letters and press Enter. You can also toggle your scenes from script to outline and back again without re-entering the information.) As for the more theoretic stuff, the story prompts are clearly taken from screenwriting which is formulaic due to the time contraints of a film. (For example, the lengths of scenes, act breaks, and total number of pages are far more restrictive to fit a 120-minute film than the scenes, chapters, and total pages of a novel.) Because a novel can be far longer than a 120-page screenplay, there's little here for creating stories with complex plots, for tracking subplots, or for creating backstory f...
