2 stars (A Disorganized and Confusing Textbook.) - Explanations of concepts are constantly interrupted mid-paragraph by various secondary explanations, questions and diagrams that do not tie in well with the central concept that was being explained. I find it very difficult to follow when each page is scattered with little side projects for the student to try with the cd-rom or with a calculator. Just glancing at any page it is hard to find the heart of the material. I much prefer a text that focuses on straight forward explanations of concepts rather than what seems to me as mere gimmicks. 4 stars (Solid, but not spectacular textbook) - I was assigned this book for use in teaching an introductory statistics course. The CD is quite good, containing a PowerPoint presentation outline for each chapter. It also has a section of excellent examples, but it only goes through the first three chapters, which is unfortunate. Each chapter begins with a "Chapter Case Study", which I found to be worthless. The text and examples in each section & chapter are pretty good, about what would be expected from a textbook. What is different is the "Technology Instructions" inserted throughout, for doing stats with Minitab, Excel XP, and the TI-83 Plus calculator (which my school requires). It's needed, because the TI-83 manual is not very good. Where the book could be better, for my class, is in describing how a student can verify his/her own work. Too many times students make a small mistake early in a problem, which leads to a non-sensical answer -- if the student stops to evaluate the meaning of it (for example, a probability greater than 1). Particularly in hypothesis testing, students frequently build the null and alternative hypotheses backwards, and then end up with a conclusion statement that clearly contradicts the data. While this book is very clear about a five-step approach to *doing* the test, it should have included a sixth step -- verifying that your answer m... 5 stars (Same Book Used by our School District) - This is the same book used by our public school district. We are in one of the leading districts in the nation. The only negative I have is the price. I found it new at Walmart>Books>Textbooks for a lower price. Even they are higher than the publisher's price. Buy it here if you have confidence in your seller. I won't! 5 stars (Fast and easy, a great way to learn!) - En Espanol is a great way to learn spanish. Its chapters are set up in an easy, logical order. There are lots of review exercises and the set-up is appealing. Not only do you learn basic vocab, there are sections on culture and history. The pages are bright and are geared toward middle/high school aged kids. At the end of every chapter there is a vocab list compiling all the new words from the chapter. It also contains a Spanish/English, English/Spanish dictionary in the back for easy reference. En Espanol makes learning spanish fun and easy. ... 2 stars (Cautious of this book on canines) - I don't feel this book has a workable solution to the problem. It is a method that requires much more than most people can give to the problem. The book is actually a booklet and the cost was too much for what it offers. 2 stars (Nice Magazine Article) - I guess I should have noticed the "29 pages" in the description. It's 15 pages of 8x10 paper folded in half, two staples, and a cover. That works out to 19.83 cents per page. Amazon's paperback "War and Peace" [$10.46] at 1472 pages would cost $291.95 if published by Dr. McConnell. Calling this a book or booklet seems a little much. Perhaps "pamphlet" is a better descriptor. 5 stars ( The Cautious Canine ) - Brilliant little book. Did not teach me anything new in the way of sit, down, stay but gave me a plan to follow with my 2yr old abused, re-homed (for the third time) Rottweiler. With in 7 days and many treats she gave me her first glance when one of her many 'triggers' (other dogs, running children, fast bikes, strange men) came close. A sure sign we were going in the right direction. If you have a dog that will not listen to you while on your walks and lunges for other dogs YOU NEED THIS BOOK! ... 5 stars (How to be the Leader of the Pack...And have Your Dog Love You For It.) - Excellent service, great condition. I would use them again. 5 stars (Excellent Introduction) - This pamphlet is a wonderful introduction into developing a the leader relationship with your family's canine companion. It introduces the concept of NILIF "Nothing In Life is Free", a positive training method used to place humans in the alpha role of the pack. It is also often used on proven aggressive dogs, but is better to do it right from the start. I would not recommend using the pamphlet as the sole source for training the family dog, but it's an excellent start. A very fast read with easy, understandable language. Highly recommended. Excellent gift for every new dog owning family. 3 stars (Simple instructions but a bit brief) - I didn't learn anything new from this booklet but it covers the basics that a first time dog owner may not know. Its size makes it great to carry around or to pass along to someone who needs it. I found it was easier to give to a friend who's dog rules the house and hopefully it didn't seem too pushy. It seems less offensive if you drop off a simple booklet rather than burying them under a huge book outlining all the things they're doing wrong with a pet. Its great at home too because I can leave this lying around in our living room and certain family members may actually read something this short. However, the fact that its very brief means it should probably not be the only book read on the topic. Hopefully it will interest them enough to go find out more. I'd call it a portable, quick reference guide. ...
