4 stars (Ponderous) - While I enjoyed this work and read it from cover to cover, it did begin to seem like too much of good thing. Some of the organization information seemed dated and some of the people who are offering advice are probably no longer held with such high regard in their former organizations. In any case, I would recommed it to anyone who is doing graduate or post-graduate work in organization and management or just wants some insight into how organizations really work. 5 stars (Great book to look at change from different lenses) - This book is touted as a "resource" to the Fifth Discipline, but my view is that it could itself stand on its own steam as a handbook for change management. With articles contributed by a variety of authors, the book looks at the challenges of triggering, initiating, aligning and sustaining change and the various diverse ways to confront and solve those challenges. The challenges that the book identifies are the challenges of: Orientation, Generating Profound Change, Not Enough Time, No Help, Not Relevant, Walking the Talk, Fear & Anxiety, Assessment & Measurement, True Believers and Non-believers, Governance, Diffusion, Strategy & Purpose. The book is choc-a-block with tools, explanation of jargon and references to other resources. An orientation to Systems Thinking and looking at organizations as complex systems would help in clarifying the book more. Hence it is desirable to read "the fifth discipline" before you read it. However, the delightful nature of this book ensures that you can flip open any page, read a little bit and keep it back, and feel refreshed and not thirst for more. For people who look at organizations as communities, as networks and as human systems in addition to just being an economic entity this book will delight and scare. For others, this book will act as a provoking way to look at change and organizations in search of equilibrium. 3 stars (Retread) - Senge et al have done some wonderful work... 5 stars (Discerning God's will can't be done sitting still) - McManus does an excellent job in this book defining what "God's will" means. So often being in God's will is taught as a place of comfort and security when in truth (biblical truth) it's far from it. Being in God's will is being out of our own will (initially) and we are uncomfortable with the thought of not controlling, not predicting the outcome of our own future. McManus goes on to say that being in God's will is a "dangerous place to be". If you wonder what God's will for your life is or know someone struggling with that question this will serve as an excellent read! Consider this book along with John Ortberg's "If You Want to Walk on Water You Gotta Get Out of the Boat". I can't wait to read more of Mcmanus's work! 5 stars (rob) - To the reader who wrote this: "...anybody could be so gullible as to accept this gibberish! amazing...and to think ERWIN (who should find some time and do a little research first) is actually making money off you poor souls! oh, the pity. I give it a one, but only because it has print in it." I would say....what is the fruit of your life in the kingdom? Erwin lives what he preaches, and lives are changed because of it. This book totally changed my focus from sitting back, waiting on God to "find me" to moving out and seeking where God is already at work, and joining in. 4 stars (if you need a pep talk...) - This book was the right thing at the right time for me. As I was deciding to leave insitutional ministry and launch out and plant a church, I picked up Seizing Your Divine Moment. During one of the scariest times of my life, Erwin McManus took scripture and applied it in such a way that I was not only encouraged, but I was energized. I highly recommend this book to those who are thinking about their lives and wondering "What's next?"...and who might even be a little afraid of the answer. ... 5 stars (Great book for new football moms!) - My somewhat sports inclined 9th grader decided to go out for football this year. I found myself in the stands not knowing anything other than the ball needs to go into the end zone. I searched and found this book. It's great. My son no longer rolls his eyes because I don't understand what he's saying. I know all the positions and I'm learning the calls. Pretty good for just a couple of weeks. I'm still not sure I like it when my baby is at the bottom of that pile of sweaty boys, but the book told me "Moms NEVER go on the field." Good read. 5 stars (Actually, it's Even a book for Guys ) - You'd think every guy in America (if not the whole planet) knew the details of football. Well, some -- albeit not many -- do not. It was late in life that my interest in football (NFL & collegiate) really sparked, and I wanted to know much more about the strategy and workings of the game. First I got the Idiot's Guide, and it was fine. Then I got the Dummies book, and it helped as well. But I was still confused on the very basics, which is "who is what player and how do they fit into the game?" So, when I stumbled across Snot Bubbles, it looked to be worth a try. Good choice! It does cover the very basics, and does so very well!!! So, to anyone else that really wants to know the absolute basics, this is a book to read. The others -- Idiot's and Dummies -- are also fine, although they are more detailed. The Idiot's does an especially good job of explaining things worth knowing, like what is a Color Analyst, or a Hail Mary, and what do you mean by Snot Bubbles???? 5 stars (They're baaaack!) - Ladies!
