5 stars (Helpful Work for Word Studies) - Students of New Testament Greek should purchase this book. The one volume abridged addition is suited for quick word studies and for those looking for short background history on Greek phrases and words. The outline of the book is easy to follow. Kittel looks at every major usage of the Greek word from its cultural setting to its biblical usage. While I concur that sometimes Kittel's theology is not orthodox, his background history of the Greek word and its root usage is worth the price of the book. True New Testament Greek students will still enjoy diving into the Greek text yourself without seeing Kittel's word studies but it is helpful to see how he compares to your own exegesis. 2 stars (Poor Semantics) - These old volumes [I own the 10 vol. set], and those that use it uncritically, suffer from several exegetical fallacies. The first is known as the "root fallacy." The ancient origin of a word [100-5000 years earlier] has little if anything to do with its use or meaning in a particular text in the New Testament. This is also known in modern semantics as the 'etymological fallacy.' Similarly, there is an enormous difference between diachronic [through time] linguistics and synchronic linguistics [same time]. The use of a word 100-5000 years earlier or later has little if anything to do with its use at a particular time by a particular person. Another now classic fallacy has been called the "illigitimate totality transfer." That is when a reader of a particular N.T. text illigitimately imports or includes all possible uses found everywhere else throughout all time into a particular text in the N.T. The reader is referred to excellent books on the subject by James Barr [who broke the grown in applying modern linguistics and semantics into Biblical exegesis] and more recently D.A. 5 stars (Great game! Constantly played!) - This game is complete with cute riddles and challenging "hidden pictures". My 7 year old has been infatuated with this game for about a year. He does them again and again. I even catch my 10 year old joining in on the fun. I myself sometimes cannot help but to "help" find the hidden objects. This definately holds my little one's interest and is one of the computer games that is played on a regular basis. It is not as scary as the name would suggest and have found it to be very cute! Very clever! 5 stars (Great game!) - I loved the game but I found it a little scary. It was tricky and challenging, so it lasted a long time. It was spooky so I had to run upstairs sometimes and my dad played it for me. 3 stars (just ok...) - MY kids are 8, and this game just did not keep their interest. Although as an adult, I thought it looked interesting. 5 stars (Message in a Haunted Mansion) - Message in a Haunted Mansion is the 3rd Nancy Drew game of the series! I beat it also, and I love it because it is kinda scary. You hear noises, and see ghosts sometimes too! Some parts you'll have to use "Second Chance" which is a great thing to use when you did something wrong, and you need to redo it, so you can do it right. 4 stars ( Horses for Dummies ) - This is a great book. I liked the content and was able to get good advice on riding and taking care of my horse. It had been some time since I had ridden a horse and the review was very good for me. This book is great for beginners or advanced riders. 4 stars (BACK IN THE SADDLE...FOR THE FIRST TIME!) - HORSES FOR DUMMIES does an excellent job of introducing the horse lover to the ins and outs of horses and horse ownership. The book paints a fairly accurate picture of all that is involved in getting started, covering the gamut of gadgets and tack necessary, a variety of veterinary issues, housing, feeding, training...you name it. A good, sound preliminary overview. The one drawback to the book is that the authors go way overboard with trying to help the reader assess whether horse ownership is a realistic option. It seemed to me that they had perhaps seen some severe situations where people bought horses that really shouldn't have and they then vented their frustrations into this book. As a result they, in some cases, use a sledgehammer to swat the horse fly when a fly swatter would suffice. If taken too literally the book would be titled YOU DON'T REALLY WANT TO HAVE HORSES, DO YOU? and drive everyone except diehard cowboys away from even considering owning horses. Yes, owning horses is a big responsibility but I have only heard of a few extremely rare cases where horses truly suffered as the result of unprepared owners. However, I see this as a minor thing. Read the book for the great information that it imparts and don't let the stump speeches about whether you are ready to own a horse by the authors get in the way. It tried to steal a lot of ideas from The Sims, but they are all implemented badly. Wanna build a business relationship with a rock star? Just click the "business conversation" button often. 2 stars (In an enlightened age, Cherry is still old school) - Cherry Hill has come up with some neat little exercise books to offer you training ideas. But she has some outdated ideas on horse training. Compare the advice you get in her book "The Formative Years" with some of the more enlightened trainers published in the last 20 years. 5 stars (A valuable addition to your equestrian library.) - The number of excellent reviews for this book reflect the application to riders of all levels and disciplines. The most valuable aspect of this book is that it encourages the rider to formulate a plan for their schooling sessions and make a conscious decision not to do the same thing day in day out - something we are all guilty of on occasion. Make your schooling sessions more fun for you and your horse with this informative guide. 5 stars (good for both disciplines) - We love this book! Cherry Hill is such a good author, she explains things in such a way that they are understandable and useful, not just a concept that you might not be able to use.
