5 stars (Fabulous resource!) - This book is an outstanding resource for all teachers of reading. It addresses a wide range of aspects of reading instruction, including phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and comprehension, to name just a few. For each area, the book includes several key sections: WHAT is ...?; WHY is ... important?; and HOW do you teach ...? The layout is simple to follow, and it is packed with excellent activities. It is truly amazing how much information is included in this one book. Most importantly, the content of the book is soundly based in current research that is presented in a very accessible way. The activities are well-designed and realistic, and all the necessary information is included to be able to implement the activity in your classroom. Every teacher should have a copy of this book! 5 stars (CORE Teaching Reading Resourcebook) - CORE Teaching Reading Resourcebook is a superior book to use as a reference in the classroom. It supports all areas of reading in grades K-8. Also it has wonderful advice about ELL students. Not only does this book have information about teaching reading, but it has hands on teaching methods that are proven practices. Some of the larger areas of the book are word structure, sound/print connection, decoding, spelling, vocabulary development, comprehension, reading and responding, and differentiated instruction. CORE Teaching Reading Resourcebook greatly compliments Words Their Way, another must have book. One downfall about this book is the page numbering system, but as you work from the book it becomes less difficult. My first book was given to me from the California Reading and Literature Project and I'm buying another copy for my son, who is also a teacher. I would recommend this book to any teacher interested in improving their knowledge of teaching reading. I often review my teaching strategies with this book before finalizing my lesson plans. ... 5 stars (Must have!) - I re-visited the idea of getting the activity book when my friend had all these amazing project ideas, coloring pages and activity pages--all from the activity workbook. It's tremendous, thorough, and does a lot of research and thinking for you. It's a fabulous extension of the Story of the World books. 5 stars (A great compliment) - We are 4 weeks into enjoying Story of the World Book 1 and have found the activity book to be a great complement. The suggested activities for each chapter make the text come alive. The group of coloring pages alternates between informative (but not overwhelming) maps and coloring pages appropriate to the text. I was especially pleased to coincidently (?) see a full color illustration in one of my mother-in-law's books on ancient Egypt that matched my daughter's coloring page version. We might have done the narrative retelling on our own, but having the narration guidelines helps. I like the activity book and don't know what we'd do without it! 4 stars (Great Story) - This is a great introduction to Western Civ. for children. 5 stars (Perfect for little ones) - Finally, fresh new characters which are adorable. I am a converted Kutoka buyer as I have now bought a 3rd item from them. I was so impressed with the Mia Reading and Mia Language that I wanted to try this multi-subject game for my twin girls in kindergarten. This game is a great compliment to mia reading as it reinforces literacy and other subjects like math and problem solving. We haven't played with the art part yet but I still think it's a great value for the other subjects. I'm really impressed how it helps to develop their cognitive skills and patience as one of my girls has a problem with concentration but found through the problem solving activities that she is overcoming these difficulties. Great product. Even my neighbours kids come over to play it! 5 stars (Help for PC user Joel G ) - (Responding to Joel G's review below) It's unfortunate that your child was unable to enjoy Didi & Ditto because of a technical problem you had with your computer. The majority of Didi & Ditto players are running Microsoft Windows and enjoying this great educational software. Also note that all activites can be unlocked in the Activities menu by pressing the F6 key on your keyboard. Hope this helps. 4 stars (Learning fun) - My 4 year old son received this as a Christmas present. He has really enjoyed playing it so far. He can do most of the activities without help. There is one part where you have to ride a cart down a mountain and click buttons to duck or jump, which I think is pretty hard for little ones (it actually took me a couple of tries to make it down the mountain). 2 stars (Disappointing. Only 1 of 3 discs is Mac OS X compatible!) - The packaging is very deceiving. Only one of the 3 CD's is Mac OS X compatible, Although the other 2 do launch, they launch in OS 9 emulation (classic) mode. OS X has been out for what, 5 years and they haven't upgraded all their software yet! Very disappointing ...
