5 stars (Writing Beyond Genre) - Most of what Kim Stanley `Stan' Robinson writes is classified as science fiction. His works also often wear the label `literary,' but I read a little bit of everything, including unliterary science fiction, so I think dispensing with labels would be appropriate at this point. Stan's novels are the works of a writer with broad interests and a penchant for accuracy, so getting into his head through the Amazon Shorts titled "Imagining Abrupt Climate Change: Terraforming Earth" was lots of fun. In this 20 page electronic download, Stan lets us in on the genesis of his current project, a near future trilogy [including Forty Signs Of Rain and the soon to be released Fifty Degrees Below] that has the Earth descending into a sudden cold period. He relates connections to his personal interests and two previous novels [Green Mars from the Mars trilogy and the stand alone Antarctica, which he wrote after being part of the Antarctic Artists and Writers' program]. There are several methods for reading the piece, and other than a few typos, I really enjoyed "Imagining Abrupt Climate Change" and look forward to pieces by other authors in the Amazon Shorts series - a series I hope is long term and will not abruptly end. 5 stars (Nobody makes 'boring science' as interesting as KSR does) - I'm of the belief one should never pass up the chance to read anything Mr. Robinson publishes. His prose is like the crispest poetry, but without poetry's pretentiousness. This essay, like his fiction, presents theories without shying away from the difficult task of giving the reasons why they're worth considering -- even when it means explaining concepts from paleontology, climatoly, and other similarly unglamorous sciences. It is an engaging read that will help those eagerly awaiting "Fifty Degrees Below" bide their time until that novel's release while also helping to understand the author's motivation and thought process. Even if you've avoided Mr. Ro... 2 stars (A Very Hard Toy) - This toy is very fun but hard. I cant even beat level one. This toy is only good for kids ten and up.The only thing is that the older kids probaly dont even like Kim Possible. It should be way easyer then then this so the younger children can play with this neat toy. So you can see why this toy is so bad. Now you can see why I rated it so poorly. 5 stars (Way better than the 2nd Kim Possible and the 1st!) - This game is better than the 2nd and definitely the 1st edition. You can play as Kim, Ron, and even Rufus! You also get more gadgets like the boomerang comb, the hot sauce, and really cool karate moves for Ron. If you liked the 1st and the 2nd edititon, you are definitely gonna like this one! ... 5 stars (Excellent book) - Ultimate flexibility is an excellent book for those who practice the martial arts, regardless of their current flexibility level. It's even great for those who don't. My wife (who doesn't practice martial arts) joins me for flexibility exercises and enjoys the workout quite a bit. The book is divided to 3 main categories. The first chapters deal with the scientific background. What are the mechanisms behind flexibility; what can be improved; what are the limitations; and what are the potential hazards for the un-educated, practicing flexibility. It details the major muscle groups and explains the benefit of having each flexible. It has good suggestions in terms of keeping workout logs and setting goals. The second part has actual flexibility exercises, all clearly explained along with a photo for each. Some exercises are presented with a few alternatives-- easier versions and harder versions. The third and last part suggests flexibility workouts. That is, what a workout should include depending on your background and goals. Ultimate Flexibility has helped my flexibility tremendously. It's educational, clear and concise and most importantly, motivating. I now look forward for some time off so I can go out and practice some flexibility. Bravo. - Petel 5 stars (My teacher snagged it.......................) - I got about 45 minutes to look it over, took it to class with me. My teacher snagged it, haven't seen it since! I think I'm being tortured with stuff out of the book because it's all new......LOL Great book, lots of pictures with good explanations of what is being accomplished with each exercise. 5 stars (Good for All Sports) - The book could just be called "Ultimate Flexibility" without the reference to martial arts in the title. I bought the book as a novice in martial arts, but this is a good, general guide to stretching, period. For us martial artists it has the bonus of letting us know which stretches help for...
