1 stars (Wasted Money......) - Wow, I know that I can be a fool, but I was definately robbed of $16.00, even after reading the front and back of this very deceiving book! I mean, I know that I need help with anger, but this book just seemed to make me ANGRIER! I spent $16.00 on a wanna-be Bible (Something I could have gotten for free at my FORMER Church) and the contents only seemed to anger me more! Not only did half of their text not make sense, their descriptions of anger and recognizing anger only seemed to categorize the entirety of this country! The verbage used and perspective in which this ~story~ is told borderlines an autobiography of a man named "Tom". If you like a good bedtime story, like to waste time and money, and do not need real anger management help, then by all means buy this "novel". Yes, i am a bible believing Christian and this book does use the bible as a source of reference. I learned so much about my anger and the anger of others. 4 stars (Finally, An Answer) - The book is expansive, deep and yet fairly easy to read. In straightfoward terms the author shares his observations about men and women. He carefully builds his case that God made man and woman to reflect the LORD's own masculinity and feminity. Each has a role to play in shaping and developing the world; when sin entered these roles were corrupted and the Enemy has worked hard to keep us in the dark about what it means to be masculine. John Eldredge takes time to explore the things that motivate men and how many of us avoid being the man God made preferring to pretend to be something we are not. He shows how men were made for God's glory and how they can recover what was lost in the Fall. 5 stars (Not Just a Study Guide...) - The Field Manual is not just one more study guide to grind out some more revenue from a popular book. It is a structured journey deep into the heart that goes far beyond the original book. God will change the man who slowly, humbly, prayerfully works through this book. I've read all his books (haven't seen the videos) and I get them confused, but what I've really taken away from the man is his vision of the way church should be, that is a band of brothers. Granted, he doesn't delve into any 'bands of sisters.' Probably only because that would be outside the scope of this book? 5 stars (Best Bible Study So Far) - I've been in the same women's bible study for 5 years now. This is the best study we have ever done. It helped me understand Jesus in a way I never have. I like the "workbook" approach of making you match verses with interpretations. I have learned where the books are in my bible just by looking up so many verses. I feel closer to God than I ever have before, and much of that was the guidance of this book during a difficult time. 1 stars (Experiencing whose heart? ) - Ought to have been titled "Experiencing the ramblings of Max Lucado" or "Experiencing the Dogma of Christianity". The anecdotal stories that lead up to more anecdotal examples were trite. The 1001 blurbs written in the margins from previous books that he has written were trite. His writing style is, I'm guessing, supposed to be fresh, street, or "where you are"; but, it's painful and aggrivating to read. Ah, but you "identify" with his style; I'm not one of them. I find the tone dry, self-indulgent, and the content not living up to the thesis captured in the title or his churchy infomercial that we endured. If you want a book on personal development, read "The Search For Significance" by Robert McGee; if you want a book about the historical Jesus (I mean the real Rabbi from the North), read the forward to the Jewish New Testament by Stern for a start (follow up with James Scott Trimm or Anthony Buzzard, or Bart Ehrmann, or http://religion.rutgers.edu/iho/). So what would've helped? Tell me ABOUT Jesus! Tell me who he is! Why he was here! What his 'deal' was! Why people should listen to him! Differing opinions of him! Yes even better than great and glorious photoshop. why? cause it's user friendly. you dont have to be a technical geek. im not one of them, and i could figure out how to use all the tools before i lost my creativity. and for fifty something dollars! this is truly worth the buy. if only i had the money, hahaha. on a more personal note, this program allowed me to do some art that saved my life really it did. so i guess this is a thanks to ulead, your 30 day trial saved my life, and helped my imagination run free. 4 stars (Flexible works at all levels) - This is a interesting software package to work with. You can obtain very good results with little knowledge with the single 'autofi'x button to choose from the multitude of preset buttons for creating lots of standard corrections and effects. The software is even capable of changing the 'look' of the preset buttons to a 'preview' of the change to your photograph. The presets are a scripts of various individual tools. You can create your own scripts, combining tools in any order you wish. You can also work with each tool independently either with presets for that specific tool or by using the controls to create your own degree of effect. Almost every tool, allows you to see simultaneous before and after views of the change or split screen before and after combination of the photograph being changed. You can also apply any effect as a 'preview' and can undo any tool, script to any level. I particularly like the choice of selection tools. Besides the standard selection by color, you can choose with several different methods/tools. They have a smart extraction tool that lets you paint a broad outline of the area(s) you want to select and the software does the dirty work (provided there is enough contrast/color difference) to give you a fine division between the subjects. 4 stars (Nothing groundbreaking, but a concise compilation of methods) - The concept of "Covert Hypnosis" was something I had never come across, or so it seemed. After reading through this PDF file, it would appear that Covert Hypnosis is simply the rather sensationalist name given to a mixture of conversational techniques born out of NLP and hypno-therapeutic procedures. The Grinder Bandler book, "Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H Erickson, MD" contains a good half of the content discussed here in "Gut Impact", and I only came across one or two things that I do not remember previously encountering in NLP related literature. Gut Impact is not a revolutionary system teaching the reader how to communicate on a profoundly powerful level, using "Covert Hypnosis", and in this respect it may be worth only 2-1/2 or 3 stars. I decided it deserved 4 stars however, because Gut Impact is a well-written, easily understandable and concise collection of direct ideas and applications related to influencing people through gaining rapport and, as the blurb advertises, "bypassing" the natural barriers of a person to talk directly to their "gut". This book contains nothing really that cannot be found elsewhere by perusing some of the excellent listmania or "So you'd like to..." guides here on Amazon related to NLP. This book does however present some of the more direct and easy to apply methods without the often more in-depth writings and specifics of other works in a "stripped-down" sort of a way making it a useful "no-nonsense" reference or a great place for beginners to start to learn about NLP techniques. 5 stars (Very well written) - Using NLP skills and Ericksonian hypnosis in the area of seduction seems to be a rather profitable business and it has stimulated the emergence of many ebooks that deal with this topic, some of which leave a lot to be desired.
