5 stars (This is amazing!) - I have downloaded the Trial for this. This programming language is amazing! There are simple commands to do everything related to game programming. Here are a list of features I really like: 1. Loading models and animating them. This is so easy! 2. Matrixes. This is a nice way to do terrain. It also has functions to load heightmaps so you don't have to model your terrain bit by bit in code. 3. newzvalue() and the others. They make it so easy to compute where you will move next. Much better then sin and cosine. 4. Bsp support. It allows you to model huge world and load them and use them as worlds in your game without losing game speed. 5. I'm glad they use the easy BASIC language instead of C. 6. It really compiles your code into machine readable code. Instead of just interperating it. The game will be able to run much faster. I am really hoping I get this for Christmas. Too bad it costs $90... 3 stars (Great expectations leads to disappointment) - I'm an Artist / Animator not a programmer. I tried learning C++, Java, Unreal Script. No matter how hard I try, I just can't learn it. When I heard there was a 3D game engine around which uses a derivitave of BASIC as the core language, I can't tell you how psyched I was. So I went to the DarkBasic website and they have DarkBasic, which is cheap, and DarkBasic Professional, which is a bit more, so I figured I'd check out the basic package and start simple. First thing you find is that there is no real How To Use This Product. There is a help feature of sorts, but code examples are of the cribnote variety: they are not actual working code examples but syntactical representations of code. A college professor with knowledge of basic computer science could decipher it. But if no one has taken the time to explain to you what an X and Y coordinate is, for instance, how are you going to know that X and Y means insert numbers here? Fortunately I did know a bit about BASIC from my old Commodore 64 days... 1 stars ( Garfield Typing Pal Deluxe ) - I ordered..this..you go to install it..asks for serial number on the box...no serial number on t he box...called 800 number..given a recording for the serial number..w.rong serial number...called back again...The recording is in French. 1 stars (Never got to use it!) - No serial number provided. Could'nt load program. Sent back for an exchange but 2nd one had no serial number either. A big waste of time and shipping fee! 4 stars (Excellent Typing Tutor for children) - My daughter is 10 years old and uses the program daily for 1/2 hour a day. Although she considers it a chore, once she gets started she gets into it. I would recommend this program to other young children who want to learn to touch-type. ... 4 stars (Sweet software. Easy to use.) - With this software you can create a 2-D or 3-D game. Follow the tutorial you can download from www.thegamecreators.com (producers of the software) and you will create a real game in about 2 weeks of nights. [...] This box is the FULL package [...] The software is not as fully supported as the professional version, but for a hobbiest, it is perfect. 2 stars (Only Good For Complete Beginners) - DarkBASIC is only good for people very new to programming and interested in games. To make a commercial-quality game in this language would be lunacy, BASIC just isn't quite flexible enough to do that with ease, and the DarkBASIC renderer looks very, very ugly. However, BASIC remains very easy to learn and DarkBASIC has some commands that are fun to toy with. If you're trying to get into serious game development, learn C++ and either learn how to use libraries like OpenGL or DirectX, or start modding a popular engine like the Unreal engine or Source. And make sure you've learned a good deal of physics and math. 2 stars (Good if you want to work hard) - This program is good if you want to mold the matrix bit by bit. But if you want to make games in a snap, spring for the professional and get a level editor on a DarkBASIC website. ... Enteractive Inc :: dark basic; :: :: DarkBASIC
3 stars (Problems) - This game makes typing fun and easy to learn. There are quite a few different ways to learn how to better your typing skills, from lessons to games. I would enjoy Typing Pal Junior if it weren't for the problems I've experienced with it. One, other then a username my mom made, no more usernames can be created. I've tried many a different way to make one, but every time a little box pops up that says there was an error creating my username. So, I decided just to use my mom's account...more problems. There are certain activities you have to complete, and each time you complete one, you get access to the next one. Well, my mom practiced a few times just to see what it was like, then I tried. The actvities were fun! I completed quite a few, then logged off. The next day I logged on, and I was back where I started. The only finished activities that had been saved were my mom's (It must like my mom). I was disappointed, but went ahead and re-completed most of those activites. Well, I logged off and logged on again, just to see what would happen, and sure enough, they were uncompleted. Never does the game mention having to save the game, and I haven't seen any "save" buttons. Frustrated, I decided to try an arcade game that's supposed to help you practice your typing, and it didn't work. There was some kind of error there, too. I think I have to free up disc space or something to get it to work, but it's not THAT important that I'm willing to go through a lot of trouble for it. Overall, I would say that the game has a good concept, and a fun way of teaching typing, but there are too many errors in the game, and I can't help feeling as though we were kind of ripped off. 5 stars (Great Typing Program for Beginners ) - I bought this software for my 5th grade daughter. She was a complete beginner and within a couple of weeks she was typing. I learned to type many years ago and I found this to be great for polishing up my skills. It is v...
