5 stars (Great help) - Lots of helpful signs, and it is also nice to see how other babies look when they are signing. 5 stars (Sign with your baby really works!) - I'm amazed at how easy Garcia's materials made it to learn to sign with my infant daughter. It's such a relief to be able to communicate with her and know what she wants without having to guess. Garcia's book and video are very easy to follow and I can't wait to try new signs with her. 5 stars (Wonderful and easy!) - This book is an easy read! I was looking for something that would guide me in teaching my hearing daughter ASL. This book, I feel, helps with the very basic signs that I want to teach her! Plus the DVD is very informative and motivational! I absolutely loved seeing the young children signing! I would recommend! I started teaching my daughter just a couple weeks ago (7 mos). She will be turning eight months in a few weeks and I'm hoping I will see her first sign then! ... 4 stars (Learn to Speak French worked for me) - I actually bought this product in Oct 2003. I knew I would be vacationing in Paris in May 2004. I worked through the programs one after the other for the past 6 months. Well, I went to Paris and was able to order in restaurants, buy things and converse at a basic level. The program works if you work at it. Where I think the program excels is in correct pronounciation. Hearing the people in the programs speak over and over and using the verbal dictionary helped me learn to pronounce correctly. The program includes a microphone and Fodors travel guide, along with a set of CDs and a VCR tape. The CD's contain the most important part of the program. Part of the focus of the program is to speak into the microphone and be graded on your speech quality. I think this is overrated and concentrated on pronouncing as the actors in the programs do. Also, as mentioned by another reviewer, the Fodors travel guide is a great reference tool if you actually plan to go to France. This program is well worth the money. Caution: It will not make you fluent. I don't think any program can achieve that. 1 stars (Unusable) - Learn to Speak French is a terrible product. The Learning Company says it can be used on Windows XP, but it just isn't true. It loaded well and seemed to run OK, but within 10 minutes it crashed the system because it used up all the resources. There seems to be a bug that doesn't allow resources to close when you leave an area. When I went to TLC home page to look for a bug fix I discovered that L to SF is supported over the web only and no support by e-mail or telephone is available. There is a fix to correct some problem with Win 2000 so, with nothing to lose, I downloaded it and attempted to install it. The first step was to go to the drive that had the L to SF CD in it. I did this and when I clicked OK it returned to the C drive. Nothing I tried would take me to the D drive. Maybe this works well on... 5 stars (Works with Special Needs Kids) - I was amazed that after only about 2 weeks of playing with this, my 2 year old son was actually able to figure out the games. He has severe language difficulties, sensory issues and behavior problems. Usually he could not sit long enough to play a computer game because there was not enough interaction for him. He loves this game and points to the computer all the time to try to tell me he wants to play. He is actually trying to "count" to 5 with the game and "sing" (in his own gibber-jabber language)some of the songs. There is no exact mouse clicking to frustrate him. Anything close works! This is an awesome game for toddlers to feel like the big kids and not be frustrated. 4 stars (Fun program, nice songs) - It is quite a stretch to call this 'pre-school'. My 4 year old quickly became bored with it, and the math sequence is interminable and goes on for what seems like forever. My 2 1/2 year old took to the challenges more readily, learning mouse skills, colors and shapes, and some basic words. This doesn't attempt to teach reading or the alphabet. The whole story about 'Pirats' (sic) - space faring rats - is rather fun, and my kids really enjoyed the songs 1 stars (Reader Rabbit Kindergarten v1.1) - I couldn't get this to run on my XP machine. The technical support on the web site was useless, and there is no human technical support available for this product. My 5-year-old (who loved RR Baby and Toddler) called it a piece of junk. ... 5 stars (In house pre-school) - I really recommend this for young children. It teaches them patience, and listening skills that will increase their attention span. My daughter is 3 and enjoys it very much. Note she is a little young for it, but I wanted to start her early and she plays on the Disney web site so much I decided to broden her learning. Since I have a 1yr old and in school now I don't sit and teach her as much as I used to and I wanted to fill in that gap in a way she will enjoy. If you plan to home school like me this is a good way to start your children out. I'm going back to school to be more prepared to home school my children and this is great to prepare them. As they get older I will continue to buy this product for the upper grade levels. ...
