If you've spent any time at all with telecom billing systems you'll be familiar with 95% of the information in this document, if not more. The material is appropriate for anyone who's getting involved with telecom billing for the first time or who has been working on the periphery of the billing systems and would like to know more. Don't expect a lot of detail - there can't be a lot in a document that contains only 31 pages of content written using large type and a lot of white space. For example, the entire section on Hardware and Software consists of the following paragraph: "The hardware usually includes high performance computers that operate proprietary software. 5 stars (Can't be beat for price and quality) - After looking at several other bicycle repair manuals, it was a joy to come across this book that is just right on the money. Todd Downs's book about bicycling repair is something that belongs on the bookshelf (or in the garage) of every bicyclist out there. The book easily pays for itself many times over by giving the novice bicycle mechanic the guidance and instruction in doing his own repairs. The book is also interesting to read. Downs explains the pros and cons of the various types of components out there, and gives the reader advice for how to best use and care for his bicycle. The photgraphs are clear and plentiful, never leaving you wondering what you're supposed to do, and give you the confidence to tackle just about any job. Where other books seem to err by giving the reader too little information - or overwhelming the reader with too much - this book strikes a great balance. Every part of the bicycle is covered in its entirety, and this book should work for just about every cyclist out there, whether you're a road warrior, hard-core mountain biker, or just enjoy a casual ride to the coffee shop on Sunday mornings. In addition to just straight repair and maintenance, the book is filled with good advice. I particularly liked when Downs would tell the reader if a troublesome part was better off being repaired or replaced entirely. If you ride a bike, you really should own a repair manual, and this is the best one I've seen so far. 5 stars (Dirt is it's destiny.) - My copy of Todd Downs' book is destined to get dirty-- dirty with the grit and grime of a bicycle in need of maintenance and repair. 1 stars (Lance is A Star, This Book Is Not!) - The writer spends time with Lance Armstrong during the 2004 season, but spends most of his pages covering other racers, and nothing that I can recall about Lance's struggle with cancer, his early racing years, etc. I did find some of the statistical information interesting - eg. there are about 5 serious injuries/week during cycling season, spread among the approximately 400 professional cyclists. In comparison, for NASCAR 2002, there were only 5 serious injuries the entire year. Lance's maximum heart rate is 185 beats/second, and can sustain an output power level of almost 500 watts for 30-60 minutes. (Try one of those 100 watt light-bulb power displays - damn tough, though only arms are used.) According to the author most can only sustain 500 watts on a bicycle for about ten seconds. A TV report stated that Armstrong's heart was about 10% larger than average upon birth, and is now about one-third larger than average; still another source stated that his lungs can consume more than double the amount of oxygen of a normal, healthy man. "Losing weight is the most important thing you can do," according to Lance. Each ounce adds about a second for an eight-mile climb. Trek sponsors Lance, and builds his bicycles - the new one for that year involved about $250,000 in expense, and it didn't help him so he threw it on a trash-pile. His tires are glued to the rim after being aged two years in the darkness of a basement. Finally, I'd always heard that riding behind someone takes less energy - the author reports that its about 30% less. Quite a lot, and hence the logic of bicycling teams.
