We all have fun making different things! 4 stars (Both my 10 and 5 years old boys love it) - It's educational and a lot of fun to play with. 4 stars (Senior Citizen Alert!) - I purchased this item on the recommendation of a few of my adult friends who have found great success by displaying their "art work" in several local galleries, giving some credit to Kid Pix. Well, I have realized I will never be an artist, but the software is so creative, if you will, and so much fun to use. I am making pictures/designs I always wished I could make before. I have a Mac iBook G4. The software was a bit tricky to open after the installation process. But, when I put the actual cd back into the computer to start over, it opened immediately. It's working beautifully. I don't recommend this software for children because it is too "instant"...all you have to do is click on a design you like and/or click on an "eraser" to undo your work. I think the joy of painting and drawing is the time it takes to create from one's own exploration. A lot of daydreaming and wonderful time for a child to explore his/her own imagination and creativity. I highly recommend this software to senior/retired citizens who can have fun with this software by designing greeting cards, creating cute pictures for their children/grandchildren - it's very relaxing and you have something to show for the short time it takes. Once you get started, it's easy to manipulate and even fun to "discover" all the tools and how to use them. 3 stars (Mavis Beacon on Mac OS X) - I originally used Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 8 on a PC Windows 98. Loved it. This was back when MB was with Mind Spring. Simply Flawless. Now with Broderbund as MB Teaches Typing Deluxe 16 on an iMac G5 running OS X is a so so product for graphics. Actually pooh, pooh. It works OK as a typing teaching tool. I recently got to a lesson and got a fatal error requiring me to Force Quit the program and start over. It went back to the same lesson and required another Force Quit. Broderbund's website doesn't have any support. No updates for the S/W. So, would I buy this again. Yeah, cause this is all that I know for teaching typing. If you can buy this for around $10ish plus shipping and handling like I did then OK. 1 stars (They were right - not XP compatible) - Even after reading about issues with XP from other reviewers, I decided to go with Mavis Beacon simply because the competing typing software is even worse. I also could not believe that Broderbund would be this outdated - or misleading. Wrong. This product will not install under Windows XP SP2. AutoPlay brings up an unresponsive installer, prompting an error report every time. The Start > Run command (recommended by the install instructions) results in absolutely nothing. So I installed it on my aging Windows ME system, and it ran without a problem. Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 16 Deluxe is probably the only thing Windows ME can do better than XP. 1 stars (Stay away from Broderbund software) - I wish I could give them zero stars. Basically - false advertising. Does not include anywhere near the number of items indicated on the box and queries to Broderbund indicate the items are no longer available. Save your money - get some crayons! 1 stars (Actually 0 Stars DON'T DO IT!!!!) - I have had Broderbund Home Designer 5.0 for about 4 months now. Three years ago I used 3D Architect Vers. 1.0 to remodel my kitchen and it was great. So, I decided to buy 3D Architect Professional 5.0 to design my Master Suite (converting two BRs and a bath to do it) and remodel my back yard and pool....completely. To begin, all Broderbund architectural products' names are similarly named. I thought the "professional" 5.0 included (and was led to believe by skimming the info on it) the landscape design program. You can even switch to landscape mode but NOTHING happens! After calls to tech support and customer service asking why I can't get to the landscape portion, I (not they) realized I had to buy 3D Home Landscape. So I went to buy it, installed it and went to use the program and still no landscape mode. Long story short...after many frustrating calls and e-mails, I (again me, not they) discovered how the two programs merge together to form one program (if installed in a certain method and order) named yet another program name...3d Home Designer 5.0. Unbelievable! Again, long story short...after limping through a multitude of crashes, letters to tech support and getting answers back e.g., "I don't know, I don't use the program" and countless other frustrating and irritating things, today was the last straw. I opened the program and four months of re-creating my four bedroom tri-level home and yard are gone to waste. As soon as I open the program to do anything, it crashes. 1 stars (lame program) - I had none of the reported loading problems [I run XP], my complaint is about the artwork and design programs.[1]There is no command to layer - "bring to front" or "send to back" - so you have to put things on your project in order [that is,if you decide that your text would look better on a colored background you have to start over]. [2] The supplied art work is the very poorest kind of clip art - just plain crappy looking - and hard to sort through. Why go to all the bother of making projects on the computer if they end up looking like they were made by a none-too-talented third-grader? 2 stars ((2.5) User-friendly but with a caveat) - This is the most cost-effective, user friendly program I have found for designing quick logos, letterheads and brochures, this latest version made more accessible because the extra disks are compacted into one. The program offers a great variety of images on every subject, with more available online (for an additional price). However, the greatest complaint is still unanswered...there is virtually no online help available when contacting Broderbund. If a program isn't backed up by online help, the user must consider this when buying the program in the first place. Of course, when I purchased The Printshop from a discount store, I had no idea of the difficulty in using online resources. On the other hand, the program is quite simple and self-explanatory, so there is little need for extra support. There is an advanced drawing feature that I would like to learn, but the program help does little to guide me through the steps and I cannot navigate anything without some specific direction. Program designers don't seem to be aware of such elementary design flaws, assuming a base knowledge which may not exist. 3 stars (Ended Up Paying More) - I thought that I'd have a hard time learning this software, since other reviewers commented on its difficulty, but it wasn't that hard to get the hang of it. My intent on purchasing this was to recreate my house and landscape it within the program. I soon learned that wasn't going to happen, since none of the housing plans available to choose from resembled my house, and I couldn't alter the structures in any way. So, I ended up buying 3D Home Architect Home Design Deluxe 6 and recreating my house in that program. I then transfered my house design to the Landscaping software and landscaped it within that program. I should have purchased the suite available with has both the Home Design and Landscaping software combined, but I ended up buying each program individualy and spending more money. Overall, I think it's a fun program to plan a house and garden. 4 stars (Good but not excellent) - I have tested a lot of programs for house design, and this one is one of the easiest to use, it is remarkable that there a lot of functions missing like copy and paste objects in the usual way , but it have the duplicate option (what im talking here is that some standarization is missing) you canot change the attributes of multiple objects, so you need to change the color of every single piece of wall one by one. Apart from theese little interface details, the resulting images in 3d are very nice and realistic, the product is discontinued by the company which is now selling all the components separately, so there must be a limmited quantity of copies of this package remaining. To end my review let me say that between all the programs i tested i decided to buy this one and im happy with my choice 4 stars (Really not that bad.) - I've read these reviews and some people love it and some people hate it. And I disagree with the person that uses it just to fool around with it, and said that anyone who would use this for a real life project is stupid. I have been using it for the past month in my spare time (which isn't very much with a 4 month old), I have used it to draw a plan to renovate the first floor of our house. Sure, some things are a pain, like having to block views of walls, floors, etc. to move a chair or table, but overall, I think that if you really want to draw up a plan, this program isn't that bad. I'm sure there are other programs out there that will do a better job, but for 80 bucks or whatever, you get what you pay for. 4 stars (Great product for the price) - I've tried using those $9 dollar products you get in the value sections of shops and they all stink. This product is just a little more and it works great and has wonderful features. The 3D element is perfect and the program is easy to use. The only down side that I saw is that there is a slight (but not much) limited selection of certain accessories, but you can usualy find something that will work. Otherwise, great. 1 stars (3D Home Architect Home Design Deluxe 6) - Very basic program. Would purchase again if price was $20.00 or less just for the basic house layout. 3 stars (Powerful but not user-friendly) - I have been using this product for about six months to redesign several rooms in our house. It is fairly flexible and powerful and has a good variety of colors, textures, materials, etc. to work with. However, don't believe the "intuitive, easy to use" claims made by the company producing this software. I have run into many problems where the program required me to do something unintuitive, such as raise all of the furniture in a room off the floor by 1 inch in order to be able to put a rug in the room. Also, you cannot "nudge" objects using the arrow keys as you can in almost any graphics program, so exact placement of objects becomes a frustrating game of, "Can I let go of the mouse on this exact pixel?" For the amount I paid (which was $20 more than it should have been because of Fry's' typical refusal to honor the rebate that they themselves advertised), it is not a bad program. But it's sad that there isn't anything out there that's much better. ... 4 stars (Borderless Printing with Epson R300 series printer) - I purchased Print Shop 21 (Standard) for one reason and one reason only: Borderless printing. I'm sure there are other packages out there that can do the same thing but it was time to upgrade PS anyway. I selected borderless printing in the Epson R300 print setup menu (with compatible paper) and got a perfect borderless greeting card, really professional in appearance. To me, it was well worth the $29. ---One more note; I had to tweak my NVidia 5200 video card settings in Windows XP to get any graphics to show up. How did I know how to do this?, Broderbunds EXCELLENT web based technical support, unbelievable! However, this is a compatibility issue so that's why it only gets 4 of 5 stars. Now to play with the other features this program has to offer! 2 stars (Good desktop tool but extremely poor customization) - I have been using Print Shop (PS) Deluxe since version 15, then version 20, and now version 21. And I use it quite frequently, for example, to create CD and DVD labels and greeting cards. It offers a nice collection of fonts and art clips. But the biggest problem with PS is its extremely poor customization and configuration options. They are non-existing. Given the popularity, one expects Broderbund to enhance the software to allow minimal customization. During installation, you have two options: either install the entire thing (and it would take several GBs) or install a minimal version (but you do not know what the minimal option offers) and have your CDs (or if you are lucky, your DVD) nearby to mount when essentially everything you want has to be read from the CD or the DVD! For my situation (installation on a laptop) I had to install the whole thing (as I do not wish to have to take my DVD along). Thus I had to let go of several GBs of my harddrive, even though I use only a tiny portion of PS (essentially, labels and greeting cards; I do not have any use for banners, booklets, brochures, ... But as I looked at the glossy pictures on the box, and read how wonderful this product purported to be I said to myself, "Surely, this product must be better than it was." Well, I am here to tell you that it is just as difficult to use today as it was in the 90's. Granted, I am not software geek, but I have been around the block a few times. I think I am reasonably experienced in using software (Publisher, Word, FrontPage, Excel, etc.), but I cannot make this software do what I need it to do. For instance, I want to paste a picture in a text box. No problem, except for the text has to be manually manipulated around the picture. Oh, by the way, the clip art is just as bad as it was ten years ago. If you insist on buying this product, buy the very basic product and get your images off the web. ... It doesn't even start on other than English Windiws! (too bad I couldn't rate it with 0 stars) 3 stars (Did not run on Windows XP) - Had to modify settings, etc. so that it could run emulating Windows 2000. Poor information regarding its installation; 2 ea. CD's, namely "Installation" and "Program", you dont even get to learn the use of the latter except for your own conclusions. 2 stars (Barely does the job) - I bought PrintMaster Gold 16 over the holidays in order to make a calendar for my parents but encountered the following 3 problems: 1) the crop function had a glitch and didn't work correctly (cropped my work at a different angle from what I'd designate); 2) I couldn't connect to the online graphics (at Broderbund.com) for 2 whole days and still can't -- keep getting an error message saying sorry for the inconvenience; 3) when tried to connect with online trouble-shooting assistance I got a message stating that the server was down. I was able to pick off enough graphics from the enclosed CD to finish my calendar but next time I'm going with a different software program! ...
