Board Game Trio- Scrabble- Monopoly- Risk 2 Mac

3 stars (pretty plain) - Monopoly is slow, but good for kids. Risk is clean and mirrors the orginal game. However it is super easy to beat even the tough opponents. Scrabble is effective. ...

Railroad Tycoon 3 Mac

4 stars (Big price problem) - I would have ordered this game, but since the Macsoft store (U.S. only) sells it for 20 bucks there is no way you should be paying the price thay want here. Something is out of whack! 4 stars (Better than before) - After anxiously waiting for a Mac release of Railroad Tycoon 3, I find that it's a much-needed upgrade of Railroad Tycoon 2. However, that's really all it is -- I'd be tempted to call it Railroad Tycoon 2.5 rather than 3. There are probably enough changes to track building and industries to warrant a new version number, but other than that and a few interface changes, RT3 is essentially the same game as RT2. The most obvious difference is in the graphics. The new 3-D engine is fantastic. You can actually watch the side rods of most of the steam engines go round and round. Tracks are a bit high off the ground, which is a little distracting at first, but overall the graphics are a huge improvement. Track laying is substantially improved from the previous version of the game, as well. Most significant is the return of tunnels, one of the most maligned omissions in RT2. You can also build a bridge over another railroad or duck under an existing bridge, a feature fans of this game series have long wished for. Gone is the grid with its limitations of tracks at only eight angles. You can now create smooth, sweeping curves at any angle you please. That said, the gradients could use some tweaking. Particularly annoying are the ramps leading to bridges. It's silly to have a 3% grade just because you're crossing a river. Likewise, I found it very difficult to create a railroad in even slightly hilly terrain that didn't resemble a roller coaster. And don't think this is a model layout design aid, either. It's impossible to force tracks to go where you want them. Maintenance shops and service towers are now separate elements. You can't place a service tower at a depot and have a locomotive serviced while it's making its station stop. ...

Age Of Empires 2 Gold Edition Mac

4 stars (Great Game) - The only downside to this game is that you have to constantly take your eyes off the screen to press keyboard buttons. A two button mouse would probably eliminate much of this problem. Otherwise, one of the best games I've played! 4 stars (One of the best strategy games EVER.) - As simple as that. I've been playing this game for ages. Ever since the beginning of the first age of empires and the rise of Rome, I've been following this game. It's given me, my family & friends endless hours of entertainment. I've also played other "age of...." games, but none seem to pair up with this one. It's basically all the same idea. You start with low resources and a few villagers, and have to build from there & fight your opponent. You can follow the campaigns or play multiplayer against each other, or teamed up against the computer. You can also play deathmatch if you prefer. You get to pick a civilization, and each one has its own unique characteristic and feature. From the Huns to the Greeks, Spanish, Aztecs, Britons...and a whole bunch more! The game has already been out for a while, and still is better in my opinion than the newer "age of..." games. I've tried newer ones but cannot pair up with this one. I recently bought a Mac, and this game shortly after it, only to be dissapointed that I could no longer play with my brother in multiplayer mode using a PC. Other than that, there are no other flaws to the game, and it plays as well as the PC version. I rate it 4 stars instead of 5 just because of that, multiplayer between Mac and PC is not possible. Here's my honest recommendations: If you like to play, if you like adventure, strategy, then give this game a try if you haven't already. You'll enjoy every minute of it and won't get bored of playing. 5 stars (A game woth it) - Age of Empires 2 is a cooooool game. If you have already played AOE 1 then you will really like this game. Instead of a population of 50 in AOE1 you can have a populati...

Rise Of Nations- Gold Mac

4 stars (Great game but not very innovative...) - It plays and looks much like Age of Empires. The reason that it's way better, however, is how far you can advance (in ages). Fighting modern warfare with tanks and missiles is very exciting. I also like the territory expansion; it's more thought out than in AOE. The population limit needs to be removed, though. It's way too easy to fill the pop. with citizens. 5 stars (From an old AOE fan) - Well, ever played Age of Empires? I bet a lot of you have. I have played it for a long time, and then, sadly, got bored of it. I needed another historical RTS game. Well, my friends, here it is, RON gold. This game, to me, is like AOE on steroids. Oh yeah, that guy that said it freezes up a lot, I have a G4 lappy and it works FINE, NO LAG on mine, there is probably a technical error on the game, or in your computer. Gameplay- 9/10 Basically like AOE gameplay, except with twists to it. Of course you build buildings, and create units, but more. 8 AGES, yes 8, all the way from the olden slingshot to the nuclear warheads of today! Also the unit production is much quicker, and more effecient for building up your grand army. Also each civilization doesn't have just one unique unit, but more than one, up to 5 i think, or 7, but quite a bit! Also there are RARE resources that you can get for economy and miltary bonus's suck as salt, cotton, wool, wine, and LOADS more! Graphics-10/10 Fabulous for creating small units like that, especially RTS games. The buildings are highly detailed. Sound-Surprisingly 10/10! In AOE it makes bad, cheap sounds, in here, the troops march, there's a sound, the swords, guns and all those battle sounds sound a lot more realistic, same with the people dying ( well the dying isn't really important). Many civilizations, such as the Incans, other Early American Tribes, French, other European civilizations, and even the good ol' Americans. This is a fabulous historical RTS with fabulous graphics, fierce ba...

Civilization 3- Game Of The Year Edition Mac

4 stars (Spainfinatic) - I have used Civilization 3 for years, and also Civilization 3 Conquests Expansion pack, for years. The infinite possibilites every time you do the game is amazing! Also, in Civilization, you don't just...BEAT the game. Rather, you beat a type of scenario. For example. One time i was Isabella of the Spaniards(!THE BEST!) and i became really, really powerful. I had nuclear weapons, and no one else did. I drove out everyone else to South America and Africa (haha!) and took Asia, Europe, and North America all to myself. Still, though, that was only one scenario, and i didn't do the space race. Actually, i've never finished the space race, come to think of it. BUT THIS GAME IS GREEEAAAAAAAT! 4 stars (Fun and Addicting...sound familar??) - If you liked civ 2, then civ 3 is right up your alley. All the little things that civ 2 lacked, civ 3 makes up for. The first day I bought this game I must have played for 14 hours straight its that addicting, the game actually keeps you from doing or thinking about anything else except the game... The game does not run slow at all, it runs at a speed comparable to civ2 if not a little bit faster, and the A.I. is much smarter and more challenging to contend with. If you remember Colonization and the original civilization this game has all the features you were wishing for years ago. More animation within the gameplay, not too much because that would take away from this classic strategy game, higher level of intricacy within the game engine, the game has become fully mind absorbing, you are constantly desring to improve your nation and the city improvements actually morph throughout different time periods, arial views of cities are much more appealing than we've seen before. But be warned its hard to stop playing once you start. I can't explain it, find out for yourself. 5 stars (Awesome) - This game was really good and that everyone who likes building armies should try it. It's only a little slow so don't let th...

Age of Mythology Mac

5 stars (The Titans Add On) - It was a very fun game. It would definitly be on my Christmas list. It might have done better though with more civilizations, but not so many that you haven't played them all. 4 stars (EXCITING! but...) - I think in my personal opinion AOM is a fun, interactive game. with nine major gods to chose from I was imadetly was adictid to the game being 10 years old I loved the the game adrealin compared to the games that I play on gamecube. The one thing I don't like aboute this game is the the begining. often times whan my vilages are colecting resoces I often find my self bord and soon I turn off the game. overal Age Of Mytholagy is a fun. action-paced game. BUY IT NOW!!!! 4 stars (If you like the main game, you will also like this) - In a lot of ways, this is just more of the same, which is a good thing. If you like the main game, then you will also like this expansion. I did note that this expansion is quite a bit harder than the main game. I ended up playing it at a lower difficulty, because I realized I just wasn't having fun. This expansion adds a few gameplay twists. Many scenarios require you to either hold a position or protected certain things for a specified amount of time. Personally, I like scenarios where I am on the offense rather than the defense a lot better. There also are a number of scenarios where you are somewhat limited in what you can do. Often, you can not create settlements for instance, which means that a lot of things you could normally do (like creating new workers) you can not do here. You simply have to do with what you are given. Overall, I liked playing this expansion, although I liked the main game better. ...

Neverwinter Nights- Hordes of the Underdark Expansion Pack Mac

4 stars (You cannot miss this!) - Hordes of the Underdark takes you on a long beautifull journey; it is the Bioware game you always wanted, while The Shadows of Undrentide could be for some somehow a disappointment, with this game you do not take that risk . In quality, it's up there with classics like the Baldur's Gate and Diablo games. Nice Prestige Classes and the ability to advance to "Epic" levels, nice in game items. There is a good Mac community on the Bioware site, a lot of modules made by players and Bioware, guarantees you tons of hours of playing. A must have in my opinion. Remember this is an expansion. 4 stars (I liked the Udrentide better but still a great expansion.) - I like The Shadows of Undrentide better than this expansion but this one still has a lot to offer. You go the through about 4 different levels of Underdark fighting hoardes of new enemys. You can level up to level 40 which is great (undrentide is 20). This is a great expansion pack. Again the only problem is if u played NWN on a less powerful computer, the system requirements are:Macintosh computer running OSX v10.2.8 or higher, 800MHz G4 or faster processor (1.2GHz or faster recommended), 256MB RAM, 32MB or higher (NVIDIA GeForce 2/ATI Radeon recommended) video card, 1.2GB free hard drive space, 8X CD-ROM drive, local area network, with TCP/IP protocol or established internet connection for multiplayer (56 Kbps modem or faster required). So if you meet those requirements and own NWNs buy this expansion. Also purchase The Shadows of Undrentide as well. 5 stars (Finally, the single-player NWN experience is realized) - This is the Bioware game we all were waiting for. In quality, it's up there with their classics like the Baldur's Gate games. The added general features are also much worth the admission: several interesting Prestige Classes and the ability to advance to "Epic" levels above level 20, as well as more detailed models and builder tools. As a Mac user, you don't get to direct...

Neverwinter Nights Mac

3 stars (Great story, graphics, and sound. Subpar control & gameplay.) - I recently bought a Mac and have decided to try computer gaming. I've been playing console games since NES, and have used computers for music and work, but I never mixed the two. The first game I bought was Neverwinter Nights as I love console RPGs and Action/RPGs. This is a cool game, with great graphics, but the gameplay is rather restrictive if your a console gamer. I am trying to stick with this game, as I like the story and enjoy the general look and atmosphere of the game, but this is nothing like any console RPGs that I've played. You don't control your character directly the way I am used to with console games. I feel more like your character is an NPC and your sort of give him suggestions. There exists a layer of abstraction between you and your character, so you don't feel as though he is your onscreen representation (as you would with a Zelda or FF game) but rather a separate entity that you direct (another way to put this is, in a Zelda game for example, I would say "I'm trying to hit this enemy" or "I just ran across that bridge", In Neverwinter I'm more likely to say "I'm trying to get him to move" or "I want to get him to the other side of town"). You control your character by pointing him in the direction you want him to go with your mouse, he decides the path he takes and his exact movements himself. You click on enemies to attack them, but he doesn't attack when you click, but rather when he's good and ready, resulting in many an untimely death. Combat feels very forced and unruly - it's this element of the game that comes very close to ruining the whole experience. I'm progressing at a snail's pace, and will abandon this game if it doesn't become more fun in the near future. Overall this seems like it could be a great game, if this sort of gaming experience fits your fancy. As a console gamer I just feel to detached from the action and not in enough control. I often find m...

Halo Mac

5 stars (Halo for Mac) - A Good game, lots of action, 4 difficulty levels, what more could you want!! Challenging and Fun at any level, A must Have! 5 stars (HALO Combat Evolved Mac OS) - Over the past month this has been a truly addictive game. Just the campaigns have had me cringing and jumping out of my seat. The graphics are nifty, even on my somewhat modest dual 867 Powermac G4 with a paltry 32 MB of VRAM. If the campaigns are cool, the multiplayer action is downright marvelous! I connect via gameranger and play for hours against whoever is out there in myriad settings and game types. I am considering upgrading my machine in the hopes that there are more HALO titles coming! Kudos to whoever is responsible for porting this so that we few trivial Mac gamers can enjoy a taste of what the rest of the world is playing...albeit a few years later:-( 5 stars (Another Game to Remain in Your Collection Forever) - If you like FPS games (first person shooter), then you have probably heard about Halo. My Friends have the advantage of having an Xbox right (because of Halo)? Well as far as I knew Halo was only on Xbox and PC. It made me mad because after playing Halo multiplayer it was a blast and I couldn't even imagine how good the single player game would be. All I have is a Playstation 2 and a Mac. I thought to myself that Bungie (the creators of the game) would come out with a Mac version because their very first games like Marathon and Pathways were only for the Mac! And they were a great mac company. And what do you know, Halo comes out on Mac. I WAS SO HAPPY. I decided before I bought the game I might want a game pad similar to the Xbox controller because that is what i'm used to playing against my friends. So I look around on the net and I found the absolute perfect thing, an Xbox controller USB adapter that plugs in the USB port of your Mac or PC. So I can play Halo on my Mac with the Xbox controller set to the xbox controls!!!!!!!! Just like having an xbox...

Unreal Tournament 2004 Mac

4 stars (Something to do with your roommates) - This game is a great way to kill time. Me and all my buddies have big matches in our dorms, it's so much fun. The rocket launcher isn't as good as prior versions and the single player is pretty limited in what you can do, but honestly this is an online game. 5 stars (Enduring Gameplay) - This has been one of the most refreshing games I've bought in a long time. It's got amazing detail for a first-person shooter and a good variety of gameplay types. The best thing I find about UT 2004 is how expandable it is. You can find a great variety of maps, weapons, characters, vehicles, gametypes, practically anything online. Not since the days of Bungie's Marathon series have I seen a game with such a great ability to create new ways of playing (although unfortunately they do not have the editing tools for Mac). It's also not a huge graphics hog...I run this on an 800MHz G4 w/ 32MB video card and 768MB RAM (which is technically under min. specs) and I get great performance and graphics on all but the biggest, most complex levels. Just make sure you have the hard drive space: it's a 6GB install and any add-ons you install can mount up quickly (I added another 2GB within a few weeks). All in all, if you're looking for a FPS that is expandable and offers a lot of replay value, this game's for you. 5 stars (Im NOT a shooter fan BUT COME ON!!!) - If youve ever heard of this series u know it comnes out evey year....so why buy it now you say? Because this game is SO TIMELESS!!! YOur friends and your friends friends will talk about this one for centuries! And even once youve seen EVEY INCH of the game you find out YOU CAN DOWNLOAD MORE!!! And did i metion the multi player? It WAY BEATTER that Halo. AND FOR THE FIRST TIME THEY ACCTUALLY THROW IN A GOOD SINGLE PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Graphics: 9/10 For how much is one screen its the best of 2004 Fun:10/10 .....................HOW CAN IT NOT BE FUN?!?!?!?! Controls:9/10 Just your av...
