5 stars (Very compelling) - The authors' use of case studies and real-life examples makes this more than a textbook -- and much more readable than one. I found myself excited about reading each chapter. And I know I'll be looking up things in it in the future. My only quibble is that I found many copyediting errors that I hope the publisher will fix for future editions. 5 stars (go professor Gerrig!!!!) - I had the pleasure of taking intro psych with professor Gerrig (one of the authors),and surprise, this was the book we used. I found it to be a great resource;it is so jam packed with useful information about things that we encounter in life that i'd recommend buying this book even if you're not a psych student. 5 stars (Psychology and Life - One of the best "intro" books) - I have about 30 introductory psychology books on my shelf, and none is more dog-eared and appreciated than this latest edition by Zimbardo and Gerrig. The breadth of coverage is astonishing, and they do so without sacrificing depth - several of the chapters (such as the outstanding ones on sensation and perception) are rigorous enough even for a graduate course in cognition. The style is eminently readable and still manages to cover all the important points. This is one of the best selling textbooks in the field of psychology with a long history of satisfied students and instructors, and this is no accident. ... 4 stars (An excellent introduction to the world of psychology) - The fascinating world of psychology - with its clinical, counseling, and research umbrellas - is one of the most consistently sought-after fields among laymen and student prospectives today. Almost every person, it seems, is interested in psychology in some degree - but carichatured presentations of the science in the mass media has given it a general unfortunate stereotyped profession. The layman or common person interested in psychology, then, needs a useful, informative text to introduce them to the ins and outs of the science. This book serves as a great introduction. Used as a textbook in introductory psychology courses in colleges throughout the nation, it is a useful tool for sparking your interest in the field. Thankfully, unlike many textbooks and books of this kind, it manages to avoid putting the personal issues and agendas of the author(s) too much to the forefront, and focuses instead on objective, factual information: the book uses a very technical approach that may seem dry to some, but which is ultimately worthwhile for the reader. A highly reccommended introductory text. ... 5 stars (Excellent Introduction to the Field of Psychology) - I had this book as a textbook for my intro to psych class. It is a well written text. Unlike most textbooks, it is not dry or boring. This book uses examples for it's concepts, such as Tiger Wood's golf game and Alice in Wonderland. It also has diagrams, definitions, graphs, tables, and mini-experiments to back up and sum up the text. In short, it is set up well for any type of learner. The text covers many areas of psychology, including the history, the brain, sense and perception, consciousness, learning, emotion, and disorders. I would definitely recommend it for a class or an ambitious solo reader. ... 5 stars (Great Book) - I had to use this book for my intro to psychology class. I planned on just skimming it to find the answeres, but I ended up reading it all. It is a great book with great stories. It is easy of follow and the definition of new words are listed on the side of the page, not in the back of the book like most textbooks. Great Book! 4 stars (Helps A lot) - As a pyschology student I bought this book in college because it was my intro to psychology class' textbook. How would I know that it would be so easy to follow? It really helped me out when I had to sit up late at night and review for the finals. What else can I say about it, besides it is a great book for anyone who wants to becomes more knowledgeable in the general field of psychology. ... 5 stars (A unique form) - This psychology textbook isn't like a lot of others in that it's not written in a textbook manner. The author sometimes writes in first person as he shares his own experiences and opinions about certain topics; in the end, it's written very much like a novel...it hooks the reader, which is more than I can say for a lot of other psychology textbooks. ... 5 stars (An excellent text...) - An excellent textbook that helps global as well as analytical learners by providing both written information as well as a wealth of charts and pictures. I used this for my General Psychology Class. It was probably one of the first textbooks I used that I could understand, being that I learn by looking at pictures rather than reading. It helped me. It covers Psychology generally and doesn't focus on any one disorder in particular, so there are a lot of disorders listed and a good amount of information on each, but they are not explored in depth, you'd need a textbook or book especially for say Depression, in order to get the most information on it. But it does a good job for what it is. I hope this review helped you. :) 5 stars (Psychology Text Book) - A terrific general psych book for the beginning of my psychology study. Very general, good intro into basic study. Easy to study from. 4 stars (Very interesting; it gives both the nature and nurture point) - good book ...
