Norton AntiVirus Mac 10.0 (Mac) Description:
Norton AntiVirus Mac 10.0 (Mac) review: 4 stars (Does the Job, but Slowly) - I have used NAV ever since it came and out, on more Macs (and Windows) machines than I can count, and have never had any problems. This one of the "must have" applications.
Even though there are not a multitude of viruses for the Mac in the wild, you do run across them in old files, especially items that might have been archived once a project was completed. And, as others have said "better safe than sorry."
My only complaint is that it seems to take a long time to scan an entire volume, but you can minimize the time by only scanning certain folders. Auto update feature works flawlessly. 5 stars (Norton Antivirus 10.0) - Not much to say; it does what is says it will do, and that is protect the Macintosh operating system against the few viruses written to attack it. The interface is slightly changed, nicer appearance. In spite of pulling out of the Mac maintenance utilities, NAV Mac 10 (already up to 10.0.1 thru the automatic updater) works well, and I would recommend it. 1 stars (Blech, nothing but problems) - I've used better-running mac virus software than the Norton, specifically Virex by McAfee for OS 10.3 (Tiger) and earlier (it used to be offered as part of .Mac). If you're using OS 10 prior to Tiger- go with Virex if you are insistent on buying a virus program. But in reality, there aren't any viruses out there to attack the current mac operating systems, and your first and main line of defense for security on a computer (and what you should really worry about) is a good firewall (a governmental-security grade firewall already comes as part of the Mac operating system).
I definately feel safe enough to go without extra virus protection until McAfee updates Virex to work with Tiger. I'd rather have nothing than Norton!
