5 stars (Sometimes, it is in the mind) - Having tried sports medicine, MRI, and anti-inflamation drugs, I finally began to read Dr. Sarno's book and within days started to feel relief from constant back pain and sciatica. What drew me in was Sarno's understanding of not only what I was going through but also all of the advice I had to that point been given by my doctors. His theory of how the brain mistakenly deprives oxygen seems very valid to me since 6 weeks later I was virtually pain-free. Sometimes back pain is caused by physical defects but sometimes it's caused by the mind. 3 stars (HEALING Bak Pain????!!!!) - This book might be worth considering for anyone who has some kind of a back problem (every third of us?). However, I have an issue with the title of the book as I find it over-promising and misleading. When buying the book one would expect to find solutions for his or her back pain ("Healing Back Pain" is the title!!!) However the book concentrates on only one kind of a back pain, namely one resulting from our suppressing of our feelings and emotions. I am not debating whether Dr. Sarno is right or wrong in his theory, but I am really disappointed in not finding any solution (healing) to a real back problem... As alternative reading I rather suggest "Can We Live 150 Year?" where the author devotes a whole chapter to spine problems and resulting from them diseases. But before you buy this book, better check Amazon's "Search Inside the Book" feature to make sure that you are buying what you really want. 5 stars (Still Going) - It's been six years now and I rarely even think about my back anymore. Before reading the book, my backpain was the first thing I thought about in the morning and the last thing I thought about at night. I thought about it all day and it was even starting to wake me up. I had scheduled back surgery but read the book before it was too late. Told the neurosurgeon to have a nice day. I was fine. The pain is muscle cra... 5 stars (Tapping the Healer Within) - Excellent and easy to use. A must for people who feel that the body has the power to heal itself from inside and are tied of the medical professions inadequacies. 5 stars (A therapy that works) - I am a Medical Doctor of Ecuador and I`ve been using the method for a few months and it really works in the percentages that Dr Callahan mentions in his book. It is a self help book, I think that the reason why some of the people who mention that the method didn't work on them was that in some cases the help of a professional trained in the method is required. Most of the time you can practice in your own home, but other times you really need help, the acupressure points need to be tapped in the rigth spot, if you tapp a little far away you are not producing the effect that you need. So give a try, if it is not effective look for someone trained in the method. Fernando Camacho MD 5 stars (Caution....must have an OPEN MIND to use properly) - I find it terribly sad that so many have ego problems with using and understanding these techniques. They are simple, profound, and effective IF USED PROPERLY. Roger Callahan is the "godfather" of EFT, and Energy Medicine in general. Here he shares his exciting discoveries as a practical guide for self-help of a multitude of issues confronting the average human. One of the primary steps to using this effectively for yourself is to keep your mind steadily focused on the issue you are attempting to heal. Since most of us have trouble with this type of "one pointed" focus (our minds can bounce around at lightening speed!), we may have trouble getting results, and consider this a failure. It isn't! As a suggestion to the person with the blushing problem...a focus on the "feeling" that comes before the actual blushing would most likely work. However, it sounds like this person has a lot of trouble with embarassment in general....and may need to work on a multitude of aspects before getting relief. I find... 5 stars (Revolutionary!) - Everyone who has a body should read this book! Read it and spread the word. A+++. 5 stars (Sarno has turned my life around) - After 20 years of severe sciatica, following Sarno's program 100% and reading the TMS Help message forum on the internet daily has resulted in roughly an 85% reduction in leg and buttocks pain over the last year. That's after I wasted so many years on chiropractic, accupuncture, back exercises, avoiding certain physical movements, PT, deep muscle massage, cortisone injections, and 4 horrible and useless back surgeries. 5 stars (Knowledge is Power) - I'm a physical therapist with 20 years experience in treating patients with low back pain, neck pain, and other various pain problems and if everybody would accept this information I would be looking for a job. After five years of chronic low back pain, I was completely painfree in two week after accepting my back pain was due to repressed emotions and not some type of structural problem. And yes by the way I do try to tell my patients now about the process but most will not accept it. I know at first the whole process sounds like a bunch of bull, but let me tell you there is a huge body of scientific research linking stress to back pain. Just think for a minute about all the great strides of modern medicine and then think how bad that same modern medicine is at curing back pain. That's because doctors and therapists are focused on the wrong problem. Doctors and therapists blame various structural problems when the real culprit is stress, pressure, and repressed emotions. Your back does not hurt because you are weak, inflexible, or malaligned it hurts because life is full of stress and pressure. I know because I lived it too. Dr. Sarno does a great job of explaining all this and makes a strong argument against traditional treatments. He explains how acceptance is critical not by blind faith but by knowledge and logic. He is truly one of the great thi...
