5 stars (International Magic Cookbook) - This book is a treat in many ways. It is a recipe book for those interested in the world of magic and also a study of magical beliefs of many cultures. There is so much to look at in this book that everytime I open it I find something new and fascinating. Sit by a fire with an herbal tea and enjoy this well researched work! 4 stars (Simple and easy) - Very easy to use and understand and with several alternatives for the same spell. Will enjoy using this encyclopedia constantly. 5 stars (a wealth of information) - If you bought this book and paid for the pound you would get your money's worth! An amazing about of work on folklore in it's most elemental form. Finally a serious work that is not full of the "play stuff". This book is valuable for anyone wanting to learn, advance their level of their crafting or even get to the lore and roots of what they are doing. 5 stars (Magical...and advanced!!) - This book is not for everyone...it is very advanced even though there are reviews that say it's dull and repetitive...don't read with the mind...listen with the being! He is a great spiritual teacher.. One of the very best. I have read many spiritual books and feel that I'm half way there...I totally understood the book from beginning to end. It's very simple and clear...so effective..it is my bible. But don't get confused...Eckart Tolle is telling you all the things you already know, but your mind refuses to accept! Remember, you are NOT your mind, you never were. I'd like to recommend a wonderful bit of writing from Ken Wilber entitled 'From here to infinity in 3 pages...' I think that's the title. He really is advanced..very technical, but he explains also about being! Well done to a brilliant writer. He is not talking from the ego, but from his being...to your being...and it's real, when you let it be. Don't try to understand it, LIVE IT! 5 stars (Transformative Audio-Book) - I listened to the audio version of this book over a one week period, mostly as I was driving around. It had a profound effect on my life. I have practiced and taught meditation for many years, and a few times at retreats I have entered what are called ecstatic spiritual states. Listening to this recording brought me back to those states each time. If they were written the words he is speaking might or might not have that power. I have never read the typed version, so I don't know if it is the writing itself. But I cannot justify removing even one star from my rating of this item. There is simply nothing to fault it for when it delivers more than what one reasonably expects to get out of a book. The book will give you an experience of what he is talking about. What more do you want? Isn't the point of knowledge to gain access to the experience? So what if your mind can't eloquently explain advanced spiritual theories to others af... 5 stars (Simply the best training book on the subject) - From all the books I have on the subject, this is the first that can be used as training material. It's comprehensive, easy to use and read, and the reader isn't bored to death with lenghty oppinions by the authors. They present everything that you need to know in an easy and fun training program. 5 stars (Practical and not overwhelming) - It is very important to be able to follow people who have experience with a subject. If someone has done it before then I know I can do it too. Great book, well written. 5 stars ( Mastering Astral Projection vs Astral Dynamics) - While defiantly not as technical or detailed as his other book, Astral Dynamics, Mastering Astral Projection provides the techniques in a much more structured format. I had owned Astral Dynamics for over a year, periodically doing some of the exercises, but unable to make any real progress. By the end of the first month of using this new book my energy body was buzzing all day long and even my normal dreams were being regularly transformed into OBEs. The affirmations plus the additional exit techniques make this book unique from its predecessor, but most important for me was the day by day structure which forced me to take the time and do the work needed to be able to consciously project. If you have natural iron clad will power, then defiantly just buy Astral Dynamics. Otherwise, it doesn't get any better then Mastering Astral Projection . ... 5 stars (the most useful and practical) - spiritual guidebook I have ever read. No faith is required, only simple practices 5 stars (We all need a reminder......) - I read this book over the course of three mornings. A great way to start the day. A simplistic yet profound message that will change the way you look at yourself and other people. I love how at one point he directs our attention to the page we are reading stating how a sheet of paper is more than just a sheet of paper. It contains the clouds, the rain, the sun, the trees, the logger (even the logger's wheat breakfast),etc. One cannot exist without the other. How often do we focus on every breath we take? Consciously, we can breathe in while we "heal our bodies", then breathe out and "smile" (which I am sure most of us are lacking). This is a quick, yet effective, exercise you can try right now as you read these reviews -- breathing and smiling. Smiling works. It changes how you feel and it affects others positively. Try it the next time you are out and about. We are all connected. His message in this book is beautiful. Can't wait to read more and revisit this one in the near future to increase my understanding of his philosophies of mindful living. Enjoy! 5 stars (Life Changing Book) - I have read this book like 5 times and everytime I read it I learn something new. This book has changed my life and the way that I treat others. I would recomend this book to anyone who is looking for themselves or something bigger than themselves, for anyone who is looking for answers this book has them. I have bought copies for my friends and have loaned my own out and everyone I have given it too has said the same thing that they couldn't put it down and that it was just what they were looking for. 3 stars (Book about everything) - Looks interesting. I will change my rating, when i get to read it. 3 stars (Fun Read However Light in Research and did Aliens Really Build It All?) - I picked up this title because, well, I was intrigued by the title. I am what you call a seeker and a knowledge whore, so I picked this up hoping that it would shed some light on the mysteries of the world. I was indeed pleased with the read, however for me it read as a noval and not really a non-fiction book as it claims to be. Browne is a fascinating person and I have enjoyed some of her work, but I have a hard time with the whole belief by some in the psychic-new age community that if something cant be explained,ie stonehenge, the pyramids, etc... that well aliens must have done it, that is a very big reach to me and I have a hard time with that logic, if you can call it that. There was without a doubt a intellegance on this planet that for whatever reason was lost, and as a whole I can believe that egyptions etc... had access to a line of thought that we in a computerized society can't comprehend. This is afun read if you are looking for a light easy to read thesis by one person on the so called mysteries of the world, but not one that i can sink my teeth into. 5 stars (Really Gets You Thinking!) - Wow. This book really gets you thinking. It is a great read and opens a lot of doors for you to want to explore and research more on your own. I never heard of a "tulpa" or Lemuria but I was instantly fascinated by the information in the book from Sylvia's psychic perspective. Out of all the Sylvia Browne books I have read this one by far is the most hands on. Read with an open mind and research the information for yourself I am sure whatever you discover will be interesting and open your eyes to a world of new things and even raise more questions. 1 stars (Ruse, Hoax, Fallacy) - Yes, Bill Cooper really instilled fear in many people didn't he? Now, do not get me wrong, this book was an interesting read. I did find it to be a unique piece of fiction. I basically have two words: Conspiracy Theory. Wait, here's a third word: hoodwink. Theory-no, it's not even theory. It's a hoax. I feel that there could possibly be some truth to his book, but only in immeasurably small bits and pieces and sporadically. I cannot fathom the Area 51 alien story and the reason behind the Kennedy murder plot. When I got to that part in the book, it pretty much became comical to me. Please understand you can believe what you want to believe and I am about the only one who has given this book a low rating. I suggest one should pick up their Bible for all truths, and not to look to Bill Cooper for answers. He was just a man, and yes, he is now gone. I am only sad this rating cannot be a zero. But one is good; just for the comic relief, the unique fictional storyline. Someone asked me to read it and let me borrow their book. This person told me to keep the book hidden and if I wanted to buy a copy for myself, use cash and try to be quiet about it. They told me they were followed after purchasing the book. Let me explain something to you-this book is a ruse, a joke. This man found secret documents on an old copy machine? How convenient is that? How convenient is it that Bill Cooper of all people was able to get TOP SECRET documents off of some old garbage copier? And he recanted the alien stories? How about the AIDS epedimic, the Kennedy asassination, the presidents all being part of a satan worshipping society? Has anyone really thought about the real reasons behind some of these terrors? Behold a Pale Horse , it is in the Bible, how much of this did Bill Cooper derive from the Bible? 5 stars (Revolutionary!) - Everyone who has a body should read this book! Read it and spread the word. A+++. 5 stars (Sarno has turned my life around) - After 20 years of severe sciatica, following Sarno's program 100% and reading the TMS Help message forum on the internet daily has resulted in roughly an 85% reduction in leg and buttocks pain over the last year. That's after I wasted so many years on chiropractic, accupuncture, back exercises, avoiding certain physical movements, PT, deep muscle massage, cortisone injections, and 4 horrible and useless back surgeries. 5 stars (Knowledge is Power) - I'm a physical therapist with 20 years experience in treating patients with low back pain, neck pain, and other various pain problems and if everybody would accept this information I would be looking for a job. After five years of chronic low back pain, I was completely painfree in two week after accepting my back pain was due to repressed emotions and not some type of structural problem. And yes by the way I do try to tell my patients now about the process but most will not accept it. I know at first the whole process sounds like a bunch of bull, but let me tell you there is a huge body of scientific research linking stress to back pain. Just think for a minute about all the great strides of modern medicine and then think how bad that same modern medicine is at curing back pain. That's because doctors and therapists are focused on the wrong problem. Doctors and therapists blame various structural problems when the real culprit is stress, pressure, and repressed emotions. Your back does not hurt because you are weak, inflexible, or malaligned it hurts because life is full of stress and pressure. I know because I lived it too. Dr. Sarno does a great job of explaining all this and makes a strong argument against traditional treatments. He explains how acceptance is critical not by blind faith but by knowledge and logic. 5 stars (Really Thought Provoking....) - The material is all gleened from hypnosis clients - no proof. However it resonated with me as the most logical of realities. -In my world it gave me a feeling of a paradigm shift. -- I now better understand the odd pairings of children and parents, the compulsions and the feelings of "out of sync" in a whole new light. I would highly reccommend it to people interested in the "whys" of life and the "where do we go from here". 5 stars (Revealing!) - The best book I've ever read regarding reincarnation, past lives or where we go between lives. This is my favorite "gift" to give to anyone. Dr. Newton shares his case studies with us in a very understandable format that makes the reader not want to put the book down. 5 stars (A life-changer) - A life is transient--we're born, we live, we die--but the soul goes on, born into a new body, gathering experiences lifetime after lifetime. These accumulated life experiences influence the current, active lifetime on a subconscious level, and some traumatic experiences leave troubling footprints on one's current life. Dr.Newton (Ph.D.)shows through case histories of patients who have been "regressed" (scientific and verifiable), that a contemporary stumbling block can resolved by identifying the trauma that created it. For example, a mystifying pain in this lifetime can be a "soul memory" of an injury in a past life; or a current pathological fear of water is from a "soul memory" of drowning in a past life. Then there are the souls who are so deeply connected that they have share many lifetimes as siblings, and close friends, and spouses. What was most fascinating to me was the "memory" of what happens between lives, when we return to our "soul groups," review our lives, see what lessons we have learned and which ones we have to try again. In short, life is school for the soul. Is there matriculation? Yes, in a sense there is in that we learn and move on. Are there trips to the principals ... 5 stars (really meaningful book) - I absolutely loved this book. It was meaningful and really tied together for me many of the disparate ideas of religion and metaphysics. Accessible and a keeper. 3 stars (Read God Without Religion Instead) - I don't know, folks. Dyer certainly had a lot of good intentions in writing this book, and his love of people shines through. I can't even say I disagree with anything he says implicitely. The problem is first that nothing he says is new. He creates new words to describe old things, but no new concepts or new thoughts or ideas in the mind of the reader. And creating a new lexicon is not what the world needs today. Also, his methods, on both a practical and theoretical level, of affirmation are not as scientific as other methods presented by other authors. This leads me to why I suggest reading God Without Religion instead. All of the Power of Intention, vastly improved, can fit in one section of one chapter of God Without Religion. It is the greatest book not only on spirituality, but human existence that I, and many others I am meeting, have ever read. It has what so many books, including Dyer's, lacks: new knowledge. Read it and find out for yourself. It will take you places you've never been. And on the subject of affirmation, which God Without Religion presents in the broader context of world religions, miracles and politics, and the human mind and the way the cosmos works, while Dyer advises us to "intend" things for our future, God Without Religion undermines the idea of division of time, pointing out that affirmations work best when they are admitted to be about the present. Instead of simply promoting positive thinking, you are shown how to affirm here and now whatever you think you are only going to get in the future, regardless of any sensory evidence to the contrary that your affirmation is not actualized. In other words, you will never "get better" or "be successful." You are successful and well now, or never.... I am going to purchase more of his many books on this subject, since I am a novice and have much to learn. If you are also new to exploring Wicca this is the book for you! Ladybug 4 stars (Practical Guide for the Solitary Pagan) - This book is not Wicca as we know it in the UK, it represents a natural and gentle path with little ceremony and much personal magick. Its beautiful. If you are a newbie and looking for something to help you on your path then this book will help you a great deal. But remember that no one book can tell you everything there is to know about a magickal and spiritual path, so read it alongside other books on magick and wicca. 5 stars (Steve Murray Reiki Books and DVDs) - I have recently received both my Reiki Psychic Attunement and Reiki Master Attunement from Steve Murray via DVD. These, along with Steve's Reiki the Ultimate Guide (both I and II)have truly opened up many new awarenesses and experiences for me. It may seem that this is rapid progression, but I have already had the chance to help several friends and family members using the Reiki healing programs. The most exciting was a successful longdistance healing session. I am 53 years old, have always been intuitive, but never quite sure which path to take where I could help people the most. Steve Murray's programs have answered all my questions and are continuing to help me in my Reiki journey. Shanti, SariZel 5 stars (REIKI, STEVE MURRAY's ULTIMATE GUIDE TO REIKI) - It seems thru out history, that when things get off original intent and become less pure, is when things become too rigid or fanatical. And the healing arts is no exception to those possibilities. When others are charging an arm and a leg for Reiki training, attunement and the information, Steve Murray clearly stands by his vow, stated in his book, THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO REIKI and he brings clarity, integrity, simplicity and freedom to Reiki and those desirous of learning it. Steve has written the Reiki Bible, in my opinion, I highly recommend THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO REIKI. It set my mind at ease. 5 stars (A fresh look at Jesus the man) - I really enjoyed reading this book and discovering many aspects about Jesus the man and the sociological context in which he lived. I particularly appreciated that this book has no theological agenda. It presents conflicting views of Jesus'life, yet no sides are taken. 1 stars (A modern gnostic view of Jesus' life) - If you are not a Christian, this book would be a poor introduction to Christianity and will probably have little appeal to you since it does not present Jesus as a religious figure. If you are a Christian, the mere assumption that there are "literary creations" within the Gospels will draw you away from this book. Of course, if you're an atheist, this book will hold no appeal for you. So this book begs the question: who is it written for? The writer tries his best to pretend to be impartial in his view of Jesus, but to say he comes up short would be a stretch. Rule number one of an impartial approach to any study is not to bring your own assumptions into your subject. But that is not what the author does. In fact, from page one he assumes that the Gospels are full of mere "literary creations", and that dooms the book from the start. Bottom line about any study performed on the figure, historical or otherwise, of Jesus is to approach the subject willing to consider that whoever wrote the Gospels was either a)inspired by the Holy Spirit as it is widely believed by Christians or b)that the authors had no need to embelish the life of Jesus since His teachings and works were pretty amazing of themselves. If you're not willing to consider any of these two possibilities, you will end up with the biased study contained in this book. This book takes the gnostic approach to Jesus: that he was simply a man. A great man, whose teachings were intended to start a theological revolution much like Muhammad (Mohammed) or Confucius, but just a man. It casts doubt upon the veracity of the works of Jesus, including... 5 stars (Feng Shui works!) - I first heard about feng shui from a woman who had been a physicist for eleven years, and then decided to become a feng shui practitioner. She found it to be totally consistent with the laws of physics. That made me interested in finding out more about it. No one could explain it better than Jayme Barrett, who's beautiful book should be on everyone's coffee table! She makes feng shui simple and easy to apply to your home or office right away. Just simple realignment of objects and furniture can help you sleep better, have more harmony in your relationships, and help more money flow to you more easily and Jayme shows you how. Jayme is a true transformational coach with years of professional experience, and her book is a real find! 5 stars (Positive changes for your life.) - This book is so much more than placement of furniture or painting your door red. You will want to read it from cover to cover many times. Ms. Barrett is truly an inspired and gifted writer bringing to her audience a way to ` Feng Shui Your Life '. Bringing energy into your home and into your life is not a quick fix but a lifelong pursuit. The author gives us many tools to work with in our every day lives. 5 stars (I finally found my deck!) - I can't tell you how many decks I have looked that just didn't "resonate" with me! The traditional Rider-Waite was just too ugly for me, and some other decks were just too weird or out there for me. This deck combines my love of art with tarot, and it is perfect for me. The box that it comes in is perfect to keep the cards in (no need for a different box or tarot bag), the book that comes with it is thorough and she gives ideas for spreads and what the cards mean in both upright and reversed position. She offers a lot of insight into the cards and the process of their creation. My only complaint (no big deal to me) is that the cards are hard to shuffle. 4 stars (This deck's so pretty) - I have been following the Golden Tarot online before, and when I have finally decided to get my first tarot deck, I chose Golden Tarot. After I got the real deck, I was a bit surprised to see how "shallow" the images are because there seemed to be a lack of sense of space in the images. But afterall, they are made from collages of many other paintings. All in all, I am happy with the deck because the images are really pretty and they convey very deep meanings behind. About the booklet, it provides basic and adequate information and instructions for the deck, but half of it was in fact references to all the painting images the author has used. If you would like a more in-depth tarot book for beginning learning tarot, you'd probably need to get another book instead of relying on the booklet in the package. 3 stars (Simplistic imagery but great for beginners) - I guess the cards are pretty, but the lack of symbols makes this a rather simplistic deck that leaves me cold. Colours are ok, nothing striking, but really rather clichey. If you go to the website [...] and like them great but notice how little the comments on each card are and look carefully at how simplistic the cards. Definitely for beginners. ... 2 stars (Unimpressive) - If you have read one or two self-help books, you might find some good information here. But, if you are savvy, you will be disenchanted with the simplistic, airy fairy fluff. If you want to understand the message behind each feeling and how to resolve troublesome feelings, I recommend Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self. I recommend Emotional Intelligence to understand the neurological basis of emotions. 4 stars (A Sunnyside) - I really enjoyed this book. It's a fast read. Just by reading it I was able to increase my joy and happiness by following some very simple suggestions. I am a holistic healer and found this book to be inspirational and useful to myself as well as my clients. 1 stars (One decent chapter, the rest sheer drivel.) - The last chapter of this book has some good ideas for positive thinking for yourself. The rest of the book will infuriate you, because she claims that EVERYTHING bad that happens is our own fault because we have negative feelings about other things. If you accept that premise as it applies to you and you alone, it's one thing--for example, you made some bad choices in life and now you have no money, have an addiction or have some other issues. But to say that it's your fault you were rear-ended on the freeway because your negative feelings attracted the person who rear-ended you.....good grief. And world tragedies, too, are all caused by negative feelings--just an asinine opinion on her part. Even her examples of what to do didn't come across as realistic. If you apply what she says, you *should* be able to "feel" yourself thin. But even she says you have to still go to the gym and work out. The author's first book, Beyond the Twelve Steps, thanks in the "Acknowledgments" people who "channel" such "beings" as Seth, Ramtha, Zarathustra, Mafu, and Rajni. 5 stars (The Best) - From my experience I would sincerely say that this is not only the best book ever written about "A Course in Miracles" but one of the best spiritual books EVER written. This is because it does the seemingly impossible. It makes the heretofore arcane "A Course in Miracles" completely understandable to both the novice and the experienced student by bringing it into the vernacular. What was confusing before is now crystal clear. Writers have been trying to do that for 30 years, but this book is the first to really succeed. Second, it is of great value to those who aren't interested in A Course in Miracles by setting the record straight about Jesus, who never intended to start a religion, and making universal spiritual truths more clear for everyone. The Disappearance of the Universe talks the way that people really talk, and in doing so brings everyone a message that can't be missed - if you're ready for it. 1 stars (Should be called the "Book of Lies and Deceptions") - Arten pg. 55: "What if you don't try to convince people to believe anything? Start writing it like it's just a story - as though you made it up. Then tell people they made you up. It's all made up. That's the point, my brother." Got through 100 pages before I decided not to waste any more of my time. This book is full of contradictions, the writing is crude, the authors attitude towards heavenly messengers is ridiculous. How many people on earth if they TRULY had heavenly messengers pop out of thin air would talk to them as crudely as Gary does. Gary's belief that he's witty and humorous is the illusion. After 100 pages I was still waiting to find something NEW and enlightening. There is nothing new or enlightening here. 5 stars (Wonderful Book of Ideas) - When reading this book, I suspended judgment whether it was a "true" book, or pure fiction. 5 stars (Power of Joy) - Like attracts Like. The Universe models this law of physics. Sandy and this book, Wildly Wealthy Fast, offer an option of being joyful and grateful in our daily life. These attributes attract quality LIFE. Learning to have a joyful and grateful relationship with money in today's world where so much harm is generated by the misuse of money, creates this work as a gift for PEACE and a contribution for a safe world for our children. 4 stars (Wildly Wealthy) - In what I have read from this book so far it has changed me for the better. Up until I began reading the book I was very negative without realising and so when something good did happen I was so wrapped up in the bad cycle I was in that I didn't notice. Now since reading the book I have changed my way of seeing things and a lot of good has been happening it really changed my mindset to how I think, I will read it over and over and recommend it for anyone wanting to be rich (don't we all) or even for people who feel very low, as it really retrains you mind to look for the good in every situation. 5 stars (Never Never Quit!!) - I have over 200 personal development books and this is the one that I have read and reread and am totally devoted to. I aim to read from it every day. I shall continue to reread it and follow the steps on pages 216 to 220 until I achieve prosperity in health, wealth, happiness and love with abundance. This is a book that I would wholeheartedly reccommend to every single person. Joy Keillor, Teacher S.A. ... 3 stars (Here's my problem with it so far...) - Here's my problem with the book: It presents an unfavorable view of certain types of magick and religions. True, I have not finished the book yet, but all you hav to do is read the negative definitions for the words "withcraft: An EVIL power inhert in certain individuals that permits them...to do HARM or cause others MISFORTUNE;" "New Age: a loosley used term describing a combination of spirituality and superstition, a FAD and FARCE, that SUPPOSEDLY helps believes gain knowledge of the unknown;" and two of the four definitions involving the word magick end with the words "intended victim." Granted, the book was originally written in 1985 when withcraft, magick and Wicca weren't as accepted, but it was reprinted in 2001, so you'd think some of the definitions could have been changed. It just doesn't seem like an objective view of the supernatural and magick, but rather a negatively jaded one. It's getting 3 stars becasue I haven't finished it, and there's always a chance it could redeem itself at the end. ~Koppur 4 stars (good summary of religion) - This book is used by Butte college as well as Chico State. The book consists of independent articles, or exerpts, that illustrate the topics of each chapter. Some of the articles are difficult to read, but in general it does provide useful information. 4 stars (Magic, Witchcraft, & Religion) - I currently use this book as the text for a class I teach at California State University, Chico (Anthropology 40: Magic, Witchcraft, & Religion). I was fortunate enough to have taken this and other courses from the authors Arthur C. Lehmann and James E. Myers. This book serves as a good reader for comparative religions and focuses on non-western societies. Articles on western belief systems are used for comparison and contrasting with the non-western examples. Although targeted for the freshman level, the text assumes the reader have some understanding of anthropology. ... 5 stars (In a nutshell....) - Read it, try it, and see what happens. It is truly amazing what occurs when you get focused on your goals- which is exactly the entire point of this book. There's a reason why this book has been around for literally decades. Other self-help books I liked include "The No-Beach, No-Zone, No-Nonsense Weight Loss Plan, A Pocket Guide To What Works." 5 stars (It works if you work it) - I got this little book, did what it said to do and noticed a immediate change in my thinking. I enjoyed smoking but in three short weeks I have stopped completely using the simple techniques. I am working on prosperity issues. Quitting smoking has saved me about $500 a year. Get the book and see your life change for the better on a daily basis. 1 stars (just a pamphlet) - Save your money. Here is the gist of this book: 1. Write down what you want in detail 2. Read your list 3 times a day, morning, noon & night 3, Think of what you want as often as possible. 4. Don't tell anyone of your plan except "the Great Power within you" which will lead you to realize your desires. This is it in a nutshell. There is nothing more but filler and testimonials. Read this and save your $3.00 It's about 17 small pages of actual text, stapled together, but could be just one, as above. ...
