1 stars (Borland is now dead) - I've been a Borland C/C++ programmer since Turbo C 2.0 and for years it's been the best compiler. Not now. I purchased both Borland C++ Builder 6 and Microsoft Visual C++.NET - the Visual C++ box weighed approx 6 times that of Borland's box (and although weight don't make a compiler, it's an indicator of the vendor's features and support). Visual C++ gives you more bang for the buck but I don't like Microsoft's managed .NET direction. Looks like it's time to seek a Linux solution! 1 stars (Sad just plain sad) - I was excited to come back to Borland. I remember that day's under Turbo C++. They truly had a superior product then first of it was fast. If you had to debug with in the class libraries you could step into them and find out where the problem was. What I have found with Borland today that scares me is it's based around Pascal. That is just not smart! It adds additional complexity to debugging. Try to step into it. I also could not understand why CBuilder violates some OOP OOD concepts through public member variables except when absolutely nessecary. I understand why now. This is a dangerous path...take it at your own risk. Pray that you never have to resolve a serious low level soft ware problem with this. It looks like it will have some serious teeth to bite with. I would have give this zero but the option wasn't available. Microsoft truly has a better product than this. And I was truly excited to see what new ideas Borland had come up with when I came back to this tool set. Now I'm doing everything in my power to get this out of here. 2 stars (Half Useful) - This was my first C++ compiler. It was good to learn on, however once you get into advanced features this compiler is not worth the money. Supposedly this version supports partial specialization, however it doesn't work at all (Or maybe just mine doesn't. HUGE problem, for me anyway. It somehow handles std::iterator_traits however. Odd.) There i... Borland International :: C :: Programming Languages :: Computer software (programs) :: :: Borland C++ Builder 6 Personal

5 stars (Much better than expected) - Ok, I bought about 4 CDS for polish an dthis was the best o all.....this CD was great because unlike "teach yourself Polish"...ALL the talk was in Polish with pictures and English written translation...so you could play it 500 times with NO WASTE at all since you'll keep hearing POlish so much much better than ';teach yourself polish " cd. it was also much better than polish immersion which was an insult. I highly reccomend this CD 5 stars (Fun way to learn some basic Polish words) - This program will teach you to read, write, and correctly speak some very basic Polish words and sentences. It's a great way to get excited about learning Polish. It is however quite basic. You will only learn about 300 words. But you will learn them very, very well. And you will speak them very, very well. The program allows users to listen as two native polish speakers say the same words and phrases. You can repeat these as often as you like. And you can record your own speach and replay it until your pronounciation is correct. You will learn basic words, colors, food items, phrases, numbers, how to tell time, names of body parts, names of things you may shop for, and polish names of various countries. As a bonus you can print out a very nice polish picture dictionary. To help reinforce your learning, there are many games that give you the opportunity to be challenged. These too are rather simple...but they are indeed fun. And finally...you do not need to understand english to use this program as a polish instructional tool, you can choose from 72 different host languages. In my opinion, Talk Now will teach you quicker and better than Pimsluer. When you are ready get the intermediate version of Euro Talk Polish called World Talk Polish. And forget Pimsluer, which is overpriced and over-rated. Same goes for Rosetta Stone and a few others. When you are ready for intermediate/advanced learning, then consider courses such as Colloquial Polish..etc. ... 3 stars (Not a replacement for a chinese teacher ... but can help you to improve your chinese skills) - I bougth this Set after 2 months of intensive chinese mandarin lessons, and it was hard for me to understand the method used by this software to teach mandarin. First, the method starts inmediatly with chinese caligraphy and not with pinyin. Second, some of the test that supose to help you to remember the vocabulary are really bad, for example the software dictates: "Ni hao" (hello/how are you) and if you write "ni hao" instead "Ni Hao!" you have a wrong answer, and you will spend your time until you understand that this software recognize capital letters and exclamation symbols in a dictation. Also one of the test ask for the opposite of the word ... and i don't have a clue where is the meaning of the word (in english), how could i know the opposite of that word in a chinese caracther Third, 3 Cds are just audio CDs with no more information than the others cds with the sofware. Fourth, one cd it's a game! Five the others Cd could be in just one! A+++: However, this pack have good graphics, a good software for voice recognition and a good chinese--->english dictionary. But doesnt replace a good chinese teacher. Lack: It doesnt have an english --->chinese dictionary (very important), just have like four lessons (common expressions, clothes, animals, etc). Doesnt have a tool to help you with your chinese caligraphy (i have another software that includes one, and it's really useful) Starts toooo fast with chinese caracthers. It's a funny software.. can help you... but it's not for beginners and not for advanced students PD: Sorry... for my english ... my first language it's spanish, From the south of the world Carolina from Chile 1 stars (Where to start?) - Wow, I wish I had read these other reviews before buying Instant Immersion Mandarin Chinese Deluxe . I'm a beginner trying to learn the language because my girlfriend is Chinese. But when I put the CD i... 5 stars (Well worth buying and reading) - This book is aimed at explaining proficiency oriented language teaching, and has very valuable material on proficiency and its importance. This is something many teachers seem to overlook as too obvious to be of concern, but Hadley shows it to be a central issue in teaching. The criticism made by one reviewer that it's tilted too much toward communicative teaching is mistaken. There's a difference between communicative teaching and proficiency oriented teaching, although they are obviously related. This book, like any other, is not sufficient by itself, but needs to be read an compared to others in order to get a range of viewpoints. It is not of instantaneous practical use to classroom teachers, but rather deals with the ideas behind teaching methods. It is a very valuable addition to a teacher's bookshelf and I have no regrets about buying it. 5 stars (Why did I buy this book?) - I remember using it in a course I took a few years ago, and I was thrilled to find so many different aspects of language teaching covered in one volume. When I was thinking of buying the present edition, I asked a friend, someone with a Master's degree in TESL/TEFL, her recommendation, and she said: "Well, Doug Brown recommended it to me." So I bought Teaching Language in Context, and am very glad I did. 5 stars (If I were to choose one book) - No book can cover every aspect of language instruction, but by all means Hadley's work would be right up there with Ellis, Richards and Rodgers among others. This is a solid book, jam packed with historical facts and insights, and I feel has caught the full heart of the profession representing the current state of the profession. I could not disagree with the first reviewer more. I am reading this book through and I love this book. This is not a technique-y book at all but a serious treatise and contribution to educators who want to have a broader scope on theory and instruction. In my mind, the author... 4 stars (Good) - I have taken many Psychology classes. This book is clear and well illustrated. There is room for improvement but this is a great textbook. 5 stars (An Excellent Review of Relevant Research and Theories) - This is an excellent text for adolescent development. It is an easy read for undergraduate students and it provides summaries of a variety of current research projects. I have used Steinberg's text for two years to teach a course in adolescent development and I have yet to find a better undergraduate text on adolescence. 5 stars (Excellent resource) - Steinberg is an incredible writer and a top researcher. This textbook is the best of its type. ... 5 stars (Sweet, Sweet linguisitcs) - I find it odd that some people didn't like this book, for I thought the action thereof was exceedingly sweet. I guess different strokes for different folks. Anyway I took an Introductory linguistics course that used this textbook, and found myself enjoying the reading assignments. I even read chapters I wasn't assigned to and ended up reading the whole thing. The book was easy to follow, entertaining, and really taught me a lot about linguistics. 4 stars (Horses for courses) - If you're looking for a college-level textbook - look elsewhere! As the 1-star reviews make clear, this is not aimed at you, despite the upmarket cover... On the other hand, if you're looking for a 'Linguistics for Dummies' book without the gaudy yellow-and-black cover to give you away, this book should do the trick nicely :) It's a pleasant stroll through the main areas of linguistics, livened up with cartoons - just enough to give you a taste of the subject without bogging you down in erudition. I don't know enough about linguistics to comment on the criticisms of some readers (though rejecting an entire field of study on the basis of one book seems a little...childish to me!), but any book that can turn a dry academic subject into an entertaining read gets my vote. 5 stars (It's an Introduction book) - As an introduction book this book is perfect; it's written in short chapters(will not make you feel bored) and it has exercises(helps you with understanding) in it. To those who are interested in Linguistics and do not have any prior knowledge this book is The One. ...
