4 stars (great value ) - great value! I have been using this program to create architectural drawing pdf's for large format printing without a hitch. The program opens in my cad printing page. The program is strait forward with out a lot of bells and whistles but allows you to set all the nessesary perameters to get a good print, or send a clear email. Opens with acrobat reader. ...

ReadIris Pro 9 for Mac OS X

1 stars (Returned it) - Wow... The guy at company support told me it only works on documents with less than 50 pages. That was after I scoured the web site for info. I sent it back unopened (so the star rating is for the deception on their site). This is a bad company... I use Adobe Professional instead. 3 stars (Left me wanting.) - The product falls short of its marketing hype. The User interface is somewhat quirkey. Over all the product is satisfactory for my needs. However, the tech support leaves a lot to be desired. Using the online trouble report screen gets you a sparse response that will require a follow up call to get an answer. The biggest problem I have come accross is the fact that you can only use the program if you are an administrator in OS X. Since all users have access to the program this is a major short-coming and there is no work-around (according to tech support). They do have a toll free phone number but it is not posted on their website. You will get it on the signature line of the technicians email response. Overall a good product that has left me frustrated. 4 stars (Good product) - It is nice to see that a company has a working OCR software under OS X. The software works well despite many scanner compatibilty issues. These issues can be resolved by getting the latest twain drivers or plug in from the scanner manufacturer. Biggest complaint is lack of customer support and tech support. After leaving many voicemails at various extensions no one called me back until one month later! If you don't mind the wait the software is well worth it. ...

Omnipage Pro X

1 stars (Don't waste your money) - Doesn't seem to work under 10.3. No patches from omnipage either. 2 stars (Doesn't satisfy this long-time user) - I've used Omnipage for years, going through almost all the versions since the first. When an upgrade appeared it consistently offered incremental improvements and I rarely had to even glance at the user's manual. Not so with this version. In some key respects it is not apparent how it works even after consulting the manual. There are many more errors in text and formatting. Saves don't even go smoothly. I would guess that something that formerly took me 45 minutes now takes me several hours, including corrections. And I still don't know why the text selection doesn't flow from one page to the next in a multi-page document, as it used to. This product should have been put in the "leave well enough along category." ...

ScanSoft OmniPage 15 OCR

1 stars (Unstable, expensive support) - I purchased this product two weeks ago to convert some PDF files to searchable format. When I could get the OCR to start it did a good job of converting the text. The interface was difficult to use, and in about 20% of the runs the application would hang before beginning the conversion. When I attempted to use set up batch scans the system crashed while I was configuring it in 100% of the runs. I would have reported the problem to technical support, but the publisher charges per incident. To be fair they do offer to wave the charge for the first incident, but since the program crashed in the first five minutes of use it seemed like I would be contacting support more than once. I finally took advantage of the 30-day money back guarantee (I'd highly recommend checking that this applies if you're thinking about buying the program) and purchased Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 instead. 4 stars (Appears to be a significant improvement over OmniPage 14) - I have just purchased this upgrade, so the following comments should be viewed as preliminary. Still, some information is better than none. Having used OmniPage since its beginning, I have been irritated by the company's practice of releasing software before it has driven the bugs out. That does not appear to be a problem in this case. The software loaded cleanly and came up and works properly. As one would expect after 15 shots at it, character recognition is generally excellent. The big advance is in speed of operation. Compared to ver. 14, this version flies, which will probably be the improvement of greatest interest to users. The interface remains non-user-friendly. New users will go crazy trying to figure out how to use it, but once you do, it's worth it. ...

SOHO Business Cards Mac

1 stars (DOESN'T WORK!) - It says it does "double-sided" and "folding" cards right on the back of the box. There are no "double-sided" or "folding" card instructions not even in their PDF manual downloaded from their site. The ONLY way to get any help is through their discussion boards that they say they will respond to in one day. Good luck. When I copied in my logo, it stuck right in the center and spread to the edges closest to it. Couldn't select it, move it, resize it, nothing. None of the basic shapes that you can copy, squares, circles, etc. worked. I WILL FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO USE! This is very frustrating and a complete waste of my $30 which by they way they won't refund OF COURSE! 1 stars (What You See Is NOT What You Get) - This is a one-trick pony which doesn't even perform its one trick well. I ordered Soho Business Cards software to replace my old Corel Print Office 2000 which wouldn't run on Mac OS X. However, it does not begin to compare with my old program. In Soho I can have my images aligned perfectly on the screen and they come out differently in print. On my cards I have a detail of a painting on the lefthand side with the title underneath, and then on the right I include several lines of contact information including my website address. The url is on the same horizontal plane as the title of the painting on my monitor, but creeps upward significantly when it's printed out, making it look very unprofessional. In addition, the color saturation and sharpness isn't as good as the older program's even though I'm using the same printer and Avery card stock. I emailed tech support and they took a long time responding. When I finally heard from them they said that they couldn't replicate the problem and asked me to send them the file I was having difficulty with. Because the file seems to be several MBs and I have a slow dialup connection I told them I couldn't do that. When I heard from them again they suggested that I try saving the file as ...

ResumeMaker Career Edition

3 stars (Dissapointed with the Resume Maker Software) - I recently purchased this software from Amazon, and I've been experiencing technical problems from the moment it was installed on my computer. I am using the program at work, on my brand new Dell system, and it just won't act right! The print preview function creates error messages, and when I printed my resume the software placed weired lines and boxes on my resume. I've contacted tech support, and they are unsure as to what the problem might be. They've asked me to switch printers, remove the software, and then install the software. We've been going back and forth for about 2 weeks. I've used a previous edition of Resume Maker and I had technical problems with the software, but I assumed it was because my computer was a bit older. As for the content of the software, I do feel that it offers some useful information. You are provided with a resume coach, with tips on the types of resume that may suit you. I'm giving this product 3 stars because of the quality of the software. 2 stars (Disappointed by poor quality software...) - I was very disappointed by this software. Sure it has some good features (that's why I gave 2 instead of 1) but the built in word processor is terrible (Nope, I was not expecting another MS Word but at least expected consistency between various features/parts of the software). One of the supposedly great features of Resumemaker is the ability to preserve some general formatting if you choose to (e.g.) send the resume as plain text (an important thing mind you) in an e-mail. It does so by offering a number of styles for formatting your Resume. For example, for the Summary section, you can choose a bulleted list as formatting style. Resumemaker would create one card for each bullet item you create. If you send the Resume as plain text in an e-mail, Resume maker would format each of these bullet items with a * in front. This is all nice and good, but for Rich Text Formats, you lose th...

Textbridge Pro 11

1 stars (textbridge pro 11 is not worth it) - I purchased this program with the intention of entering a bunch of typewritten pages into my computer. The document that this program produced from newly typed material was so full of errors that I simply had to re-type. It would have taken longer to correct than to re-type. When I talked to Textbridge about these problems all they would tell me is that the program was not meant for such use and that I should buy one of their other programs which had good optical character recognition capabilities. In other words, they know the product is not any good and they are not willing to stand behind it. The program is useless for optical character recognition work or anything else. 1 stars (Horrible is a Compliment) - This product simply does not produce accurate results. It skips entire lines, words on the same line, and misreads even the most legible characters. It came bundled with my scanner, so at least I did not waste my money on it. Don't waste yours! 1 stars (Poor is too optimistic!) - The product does not live up to its description. It is very inaccurate. It creates more work than it saves. It is slow to work with in every aspect. I am very dissatisfied. ...

More MacFonts Mac

1 stars ((Zero Stars if I could) The worst font software ever!) - As a graphic designer, I bought this software for use with my freelance work. This software boasts 750 fonts. Nowhere on the box does it happen to mention that the fonts can ONLY be used for personal use. I had to open the box first, after I had purchased the program. Now, all 750 fonts in the software are completely useless to me. Heck, they could offer 10 million fonts in their software packages if they want, but what good is it if I can't use them for my freelance work? Aside from being deceived about the fonts, the FontManager software they boast about requires the CD be inserted into your computer for it to work. That means that if you're designing something (as you would presumably be doing with this font software) you couldn't insert other CDs, like for instance, stock art CDs -- all because this inferior piece of junk software must use that CD drive in order to work. I wasted $30 on this useless piece of junk. Please don't make the same mistake. ...

Nitro PDF Professional

1 stars (Not ready for prime time) - PDFZone.com was right on this product - it is not ready for prime time. Buggy, Help File without an index, and misrepresenting its capabilities. Claims 300% faster than acrobat - but the small print says for 1 specific Word file they tested. For my files it is slower - especially for PowerPoint and Excel. They claim #1 selling, but for their own web site! Rip Off. 5 stars (Fast and Easy and Affordable!) - I work with a small business with very limited funds for computer equipment and software. When I found this product I was excited, and then when I used it I was blown away! Whatever I want to accomplish with PDF, Nitro can do. And, it's faster! At one-third the cost of the standard PDF program, I must say I am very happy with my purchase. ...

IRIS Business Card Reader II for Windows-PC

5 stars (Awesome Product) - This is a superb product. Electronic rolodex with the options to export to Outlook and many other programs. Automatically fills in the information from the card to the program. Great feature! 1 stars (Would be great if customer service was behind you) - I purchased the item because I work for a company that deals with a lot of other companies and getting business cards is a large part of the communication. I thought it would streamline the process. It would but the unit keeps crashing. I would enter 20 or 30 business cards, write all the contact information in and then the next time I go to access it, it won't let me in. I get an error message. I've tried to get in touch with IRIS and get it resolved but they don't respond. Very dissapointed. 5 stars (Great, easy to use tool!) - This product rocks! I attend trade shows quite frequently and have needed a business card scanner for awhile. The IBCR is a great tool which makes it easy for me to organize and maintain my contact database. I no longer have stacks of cards sitting around in my way on my desk because they are in my computer and just a click away. I've also used the scanner to scan color photographs and it's worked great for that as well. I have had no problems with the scanner working with XP, it's worked nicely for me. ...

Apple iWork -05 Mac

5 stars (Another Apple Home Run) - Apple has been releasing great applications for consumers in the past few years with the iLife suite. With iWork, Apple has refocused their efforts on mainstream businesspeople. iWork's word processing program, called Pages, has an interface reminicient of MacWrite Pro, a program that was easy to use yet powerful. However, this program offers much more than MacWrite Pro. It has many great built in templates and is great for desktop publishing as well as simple letter writing. Easier to use than Word, it has nearly as much power in the document department. For publishing, though, this one beats Word in every respect, and is a great alternative for those who don't want to deal with a high end publishing program such as Quark XPress. Like iMovie, professional results can be produced with consumer software. Keynote is far superior to PowerPoint. The PowerPoint templates have been around since 1997 or so, and are starting to get old and boring. Since nobody wants to use hackneyed slides, Keynote offers completely new templates. Like the iLife templates they are very well thought out. QuickTime integration is a real plus. The program itself is easy to use and can be used as a basic drawing program in some respects. This suite is gradually replacing AppleWorks 6, which has not been updated since 2001 and can trace its roots back to ClarisWorks, which debuted in 1991. AppleWorks isn't much more powerful than the original ClarisWorks and is definitely showing its age. The only module that this does not have is a spreadsheet. If you're looking for an Excel replacement here, you're out of luck. Fortunately the Mac version of Excel is quite good. AppleWorks has a spreadsheet but the interface is somewhat old-fashioned. Given the power of Keynote and Pages, this is something every Mac user should own. 4 stars (iWork Works Like A Dream) - iWork contains both Pages (a word processing/page layout application) and Keynote (a presentation appli...
