Dream Sewing Spaces- Design - Organization for Spaces Large - Small

5 stars (Great idea book) - I went shopping for a sewing desk for my Viking Husqvarna & my Babylock serger & was surprised to find a table/cabinet/desk for both was over $1,000. This book offers some cost-effective solutions for sewing storage/workplace options & gives guidelines for sewing ergonomics. Great suggestions are also offered for storing fabric, buttons, thread, etc. Great book. 5 stars (Just What the Dr. Ordered) - This book gave me every piece of information I was seeking to design a sewing room from design arrangements to the actual height & dimensions a work surface should have. This book took into consideration all types of sewing one might do as well as tips for convenience should one not have the luxury of a separate sewing space. Specific storage suggestions and directions for building such things as thread racks were very timely for me. Dream Sewing Spaces was an extremely helpful tool. 5 stars (Great resource) - I was considering hiring a professional interior designer but I bought this book and now I don't need to. It is a great resource, including lots of ideas for creating the kind of furniture you want for your room from stock materials. I've planned my new room, and I'll put it together over Labor Day. ...

How to Plan- Subcontract and Build Your Dream House- Everything You Need to Know to Avoid the Pitfal

3 stars (Voice of experience--good advice) - The best part of this book is its easygoing style. Written seemingly entirely from memory, you'll understand and remember every word. The author skips the commonly available info and writes about the crucial nuts-and-bolts problems of building a house: what do you do if you've drilled a hundred foot well and come up dry? (Keep drilling.) His advice on some details, vapor barriers for example, is OK but you'll want to check the latest thinking on the topic too. Some harmless misinformation is passed along, like that Palladio, eponym for those short-tall-short windows, "invented" them. (He may have invented residential architecture, but those windows date to antiquity. In his day they were known as serliana, after the architect Sebastian Serliano.) The scientific explanations fall a bit short, and the chapter where he disparages Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's engineering does not show him in a good light. However he does caution you that drywallers, more than any other trade, will try to rip you off with a high materials estimate. Stuff like that you can't get anywhere else. 5 stars (Great first source) - If you want to have a house built, this is a great book to start with. The author is a general contractor who has seen it all and wants to educate readers about the building process. His intention is to prevent others from the pitfalls and scams of building, and simultaneously he explains the science behind plumbing, electricity, sewarage, insulation etc. He also discusses the attitudes and scams of subcontractors and local bureaucrats. This is not a how-to book; the purpose is to educate you enough so that you know what questions to ask as your house goes up. He begins with purchasing the land and ends with the final detailing of the house. He includes interesting anecdotes to make his points. I was impressed his ability to go from the abstract to simple things usually overlooked. Although I was lost in th...

Metal Fabricator-s Handbook

4 stars (Good Starter Book) - This book is a good start for those wanting to know more about metal fabrication. Author sells alot of the handtools he mentions in the book. Lots of good info. 5 stars (A first rate little book) - Ought to be must reading not only for car guys but aircraft maintenance students, homebuilders, and for electronics hobbyists as well. Even if you aren't going to become as skilled as Mr. Fournier it helps to know what can and can't be done and what is involved, so you can intelligently talk to fabricators. 4 stars (Great book for general information.) - This is an excelent book for anyone who wants to get started or just looking for general info on metal fabrication. However I have to agree with some of the previous posts regarding it's lack of specific details. The book offers readers a good deal of information on the tools of the trade and the basics of metal fabrication. It is a great reference to point you in the right direction but you will have to go elsewhere for the more specific information. ...

The Fiberglass Boat Repair Manual

3 stars (dated) - This is a very old book as far as fiberglass boats go.Must later prcedures, and products not included. There is some usefull info in the book 5 stars (Ready, Set, Fix) - This book was not only very informative, but also a very great read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down once I started. Quickly I now have the knowledge I need to continue my work on my project boat. I would recommend this to anyone looking to work with an old boat of any kind. True enough, some tricks here will save you money. 3 stars (I think there are better books out there . . .) - This is a good book. It is complete, to be sure. For the expert fiberglass repair person, I cannot speak, but it is certainly difficult to read for an amateur. Generally, a bit much to swallow. I think that other books have similar information more elegantly stated. The fault is not with the content, but the presentation. ...
