5 stars (It has help) - This book is awesome. It has help me in many ways. The book has opened up my eyes and everything seems to be clear. I recommend this to everyone even if your not going through tough times. You can can see other people's expereince through this book. In somewhat ways everyone has expereince differently. 3 stars (Life Is Not a Bowl of Cherries.) - Most of us get all worked up about things which, upon closer examination, aren't really that big a deal. We focus on little problems and concerns and blow them out of proportion. One example is a minor problem in traffic when a stranger cuts in front and perhaps causes a near accident. We convince ourselves that we are justified in our anger. The other day, Jeff followed my directions to turn right, without looking to his left. A car was right up on him but, since no one was in the approaching lane, she was able to get over. Then she forced him off the road. I told him not to get out of the car as that was road rage. The woman gave him a good lecture, then cooled down when I said, "He's from Nashville. He didn't know where he was." Road rage and running through red lights are the things to do in this town. Do not worry about little things. Instead of "sweating the small stuff," take time to contemplate a solution. You'll have a lot more energy to be kinder and gentler. When your mind is clear and peaceful and your stress level is reduced, you'll have more fun. When your stress is small, it's manageable and easy to control. We all have high (optimistic about the future and grateful for the past)) and low, negative moods (life is never as bad as it seems at that time). In a low mood, you feel that your whole life is wrong. In a good mood, everything seems to go much better. Life is never fair. It should be, but it's not and it won't be someday. We determine our rate by not expecting fairness and feeling sorry for ourselves. It is our own challenge to overcome personal struggles. ... 4 stars (So far, so good) - I'm 26 years old and for the past 5 years, I have compromised myself for the sake of being in a relationship. I have decided that I do not want to do this anymore and recently began searching for reading material to help me (along with my Bible of course). Yesterday, when I saw this book, I felt compelled to buy it. I'm on page 43...and so far, so good. I must admit that it's made me blush a few times because the writings are so frank, but I appreciate Mrs. Ethridge's honesty especially since my parents we unable to counsel me in this manner. I would recommend that parents read it along with their children so that they can answer the many questions that will be asked...and of course, the many times that blushing will happen. Happy reading :o) 3 stars (This book was good.) - I read this book and I thought It was a good read. was actually kind of glad that it was so bold because a lot of people sugar coat words when we here them everyday in movies...etc. It was real and it addressed a lot of issues. it helps to only a certain extent though. I like the fact that it highlighted on the fact that sexual integrity is a four componenet collective. It deals with the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects as a whole to be completley pure. It showed that It was not just sexual abstinence but self control, thought control, and God's expectations. I couldn't totally relate to the book only because the guys that I go out with are truely living their lives as disciples of christ and have God on their mind. My mentality is that if this guy at school, or work..etc can't lead me spiritually and help me get to heaven, then he is not someone I will date. which rules out every guy except the ones at church. we double date and do things that glorify god and in the book she kind of pinned every guy as a sex addict or something and there are no christian guys trying to be sexually pure. I know different and that is why I gave it three stars. 5... 5 stars (Practical wisdom) - John Wooden succinctly explains the principles that he lives his life by. He interestingly weaves personal stories and practical wisdom together to make the lessons he wants to convey strong and memorable. In a culture that bases success on wins and losses, John Wooden offers a shocking alternative definition, simply that success is peace of mind which is a direct result of knowing that an athlete has done all he can to become their best. His incredible performance at UCLA shows that when executed meticulously, such a philosophy can produce wins, and more importantly, great role models. 5 stars (Incredible.) - This book was incredible. Every sentence rang with meaning, every word could be used to change the course of one's life toady. This book has had a tremendous impact on my life, and, now, I follow the book's advice, and 'make every day my own masterpiece'. John Wooden is not just an incredible coach, he can write an absolutely incredible book as well. A combination of 'Chicken Soup' and a philosophy book, this book now occupies the spot of honor on my shelf. Thank you so much, Mr. Wooden . 5 stars (Simply a Great Lesson from a Great man!) - This book is a must read for every parent, teacher, and coach. AND it should be a must read for every high school student and athlete. This should be at the top of every high school English teacher's required reading list for their students. It would certainly provide far more benefit than some of the "classics" they are now required to read. If more kids read this book at an early age, it would help them understand many values in life that unfortunately many don't discover until much later in life, if at all. Mr. Wooden writes in such an easy to understand and concise manner that kids will find it very easy but yet very powerful reading. It wasn't written specifically for kids, but they can certainly benefit the most before they get too set in their ways. ...
