4 stars (A Must Read) - I thought this book was very motivational. It makes you understand how much further you can go and how much more you receive( success, referrals, whatever) by just being you! Very inspirational, a must read for sales or any profession dealing with the public. 5 stars (Inspiring!) - Many Americans are unhappy because they were never raised to be a "Fred". No wealth or possessions can make up for an unhealthy and usually self centered attitude in life. Choose to be a "Fred" and start living with and giving much joy! 5 stars (Not for the lazy or unmotivated......) - This book is a great "how to" make a difference and impact people's lives every day. This is not a fiction book for you to just enjoy and read---although it is a good "read". It is a book which will inspire you to take action. It isn't a story about Fred. It is your story and the story of how you can create an extraordinary life for yourself and the people you touch. If you are a person of action and want to make a difference in people's lives, then read the book, embrace it's concepts and become a Fred yourself. ... 5 stars (still using method over 1 year later) - This is a perfect personal organitional method. It is so simple it could have been described in 1 chapter. But its good to be convinced of the pitfalls of disorder and the stress it produces. There are a few parts I haven't put in place yet. I am a teacher and I was totally overwhelmed with paperwork and seemingly endless amount of things I needed to do to prepare lessons, teach these 7th graders all day, grade, keep records, reports, deal with the ridiculous amount of paperwork they are constantly piling on top of you: memos, curriculum, behavior plans, tardy forms, referrals, progress reports, IEPs, IAPs, calendars, schedules, personelle forms, insurance, sign this, fill out this, parent call logs, and on and on and on and on you get the picture. etc etc etc for a new teacher it was quite overwhelming plus i was dog tired after teaching all day! I went to office depot after school one day and saw this book and got it on a whim. The INBOX, the one filing system, the trash it, act on it or defer it. These SAVED MY SANITY. It is amazing what an organized life with no loose ends can do for you mentally and physically. The philosphy and application of Allen provides are priceless priceless PRICELESS and its not complicated!!! 5 stars (Most effective getting-organized book I've ever read) - This book takes an entirely different tack from most other getting-organized books. Other authors advocate figuring out the big picture first ... but most of us are so busy with daily fires that the luxury of high-level goals seems beyond our grasp. With his bottom-up approach, David Allen starts you off you a few simple ways to get a handle on your everyday tasks -- so that you can free up enough mental space to even start to think about your long-term goals. Once your head is clear and you're no longer burning so much energy on tracking things that are better tracked externally, other books (like Stephen Covey... 4 stars (Determination to Grow Rich!) - Determination is the key to success! How oft we dream to reach our goals and get what we want? It's the determination to Grow Rich - Get what you want and make up your mind till you succeed. The theme of this book is absolutely tempting and convincing to believe and after reading the book, it really boost up ego and motivates to grow in riches and succeed. By riches, do we mean just money? I guess not. Because this book is all about building up your own self esteem and living up to your desires till opportunity strikes your door and welcomes you. Napolean Hill in his book has set an example of the Edison Dictating Machine and Barnes took the opportunity to talk to Edison and suggested him that he can sell the product when Edison's salesmen were not enthu to sell it. Thus, Barnes became a business associate and proved he can 'Think and grow rich'. Thus, with yet more examples, the book gives an insight to use mind power and use the sixth senses and be persistent and determined until you get what you want. However, sometimes it's growing Rich in many areas and missed out is 'money power' which the author says to believe in self and things you can do. Success is ever personal and whatever you define it, you grow Rich - rich in thoughts, rich in awareness, in accumulating wealth, knowledge, etc. A good book for self betterment and feeling on high spirits. Good pick. 1 stars (One HUGE problem mars this book) - Hill offers the formula for success from Andrew Carnegie, giving suggestion, planning, decision making and other formula for becoming a success in buisness or anything you want to attempt. However, I was always troubled by ruthless buisness cut throats and what they were probably thinking to justify their practices. Where did that come from? Could it be they are just greedy? It's a little more complex than that. Since this seems to be the "Bible" for most buisness people,I decided to read the book. I found what I was lo... 5 stars (A must read for any Woman in a "man's" world) - This book is beyond helpful, and is presented in a manner that allows the reader to not only evaluate herself, but to immediately put into action solutions to potential problems. Each chapter is broken down into subjects that can affect a woman's progress up the ladder, with a mistake listed on one page and solutions to apply to the workplace on the next. This is a no-nonsense book that is written by a woman for women, so "quit bein' a girl" and buy this book! The insight and results are more than impressive - they're life changing. 2 stars (Thinly Veiled Misogyny) - With all due respect to Dr. Frankel, I am a 37yr old professional who has been turned down many times for jobs well qualified for and promotions earned because I didn't either kiss the right butt, stab backs or play corporate cut-throat. And I'd hoped this book would help me figure out some way to either fix the problem or discover the root cause. And unfortunately, I walked away from this book feeling allot worse than before. So a warning before reading into it too far. Although Dr. Frankel coaches female professionals to become more successful in the workforce, this book has placing 101 `mistakes' strictly on our heads as a kind of `punishment' for being feminine. Meaning, she claims that we shouldn't act like men, but act less like young girls and more like women. All these mistakes being gleaned from childhood, everything you were taught was wrong and everything boys were taught was right. More than half these mistakes poignantly made several references toward (after working with thousands of women) finding more often than not, `men don't do this, but women do.' As the list went on, I got the distinct impression that there's absolutely no way I could possibly fit into this mould and considering her statement of the mistake of `quit aiming for perfection' then leaving the paradox of being perfect and imperfect at the same time. 5 stars (Stays with you) - This book is one of those little gems that will stay with you for years. I find myself thinking about the ideas and stories in this book several times a year, and I use the title in conversation quite frequently. A must read. 3 stars (OK, but overpriced) - An "interesting" idea of teaching adults by anecdotes and fairy tales... I don't want to be too harsh but I find this book overpriced. I find "Why Some Cats are Rascals" much more interesting. It's loaded with positive energy that bears some traces of influence by writings of David R. Hawkins, the author of "Power vs. Force." It is also much cheaper. 5 stars (This book is worth every penny!!!) - This was an excellent book. A small book with a big message. It helped me to pay close attention to my attempts to avoid change. I have learned through this book that it is just better to accept change and move forward. They also have a kids edition which I will definitely be purchasing for my daughter. As I said, this book is worth every penny. ...
