2 stars (Earlier versions are better) - This book includes numerous tear-out exercises and cases. It might be appropriate for a classroom but it is not ideal for prospective entrepreneurs. Earlier versions of this book had good material on writing a business plan and determining appropriate sources of capital and less extraneous fillers. Save yourself a lot of money and buy a more practical book on the subject or the 1995 version if you want the business plan and financing materials. 5 stars (Book condition) - Very quick delivery. Book had some marks, but excellent condition. Would recommend strongly if you want the book right away. 4 stars (Comprehensive "Owners' Manual" for Entrepreneurs) - Like the previous reviewer, I too purchased the 4th Edition of this text (paperback), and was extremely pleased. Before starting my current business, I consulted extensively with this text, and was pleased with its comprehensive, practical nature - covering everything from a personality assessment of one's readiness for self-employment, to exhaustive preparation information for a business plan. The book also extensively covers financing an entrepreneurial venture, comparing both debt and equity (including Venture Capital) methodologies. On a practical note, I also like the fact that all the pages are perforated...there have been several that I have taken out and used hands-on! I cannot comment on the relative worth of this version vs. the newer version, as I only have the 4th edition. ...

5 stars (This is one of the best business statistics book) - This book is used in the course of Business Statistics at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. This is a useful and understandable book. The questions are well-prepared.Also,the statistics program PhSTAT is given with this book. I advise you to buy. 2 stars (Good, but could be better) - This book is okay, but it could definitely be better. For a basic statistics class, this book contains WAY too much information to digest in a semester of college. No professor I know of has ever gotten past chapter 8. Further, the problems are quite wimpy as far as the amount of thought required for them. Quite wimpy. Could be better. 5 stars (Excellent condition - textbook with library binding) - The book arrived swiftly and in excellent condition. I did not know what to expect for the library binding, but I have been very happy so far. It is a plain hardcover with a piece (color) of the original softcover professionally glued to the front. The content is exactly as it should be. Much better durability and great quality. 5 stars (Outstanding book for all tenured management/executives) - Incredible book!!! Forget the rest of the management books if you don't follow and apply the knowledge in this book first. This book identifies what goes wrong with the best managers and how to get back on track. I read a ton of books and am extremely critical, but this is an obvious 5 star. Robert-s Rules of Order Newly Revised in Brief Roberts Rules of Order in Brief

5 stars (Buy this one first) - Even though I have both the "in Brief" and the unabridged editions, it is only the "in Brief" edition that I take with me to my meetings. I recommend that you buy and read the "in Brief" edition first. 5 stars (User-friendly meeting guide) - This has to be the most user-friendly book I've seen, starting with the inside of the front cover. It says, "If you only have 30 minutes" then read certain chapters. Somehow these experts figured out what the rest of us would need to know and how we would be looking for it. Maybe they had a panel of non-experts to critique. There are chapters detailing what the words are that you use to make something happen and how to use those words. Best of all, everywhere you look there are copious examples. In the back are succinct tables of those same words and there is also a chapter on how to find the completely complete information on the topic in the big "Robert's" book Most of the book is concerned with what you need to know as a member of the group. There are separate chapters for an officer of the group, which contain the things that most of us don't need to know. This is not a book you'd save for a winter evening curled up in front of the fireplace. It's to tell you all sorts of things you'd really rather not have to know, but that you really need to know. Taking Charge of Change- 10 Principles for Managing People and Performance

3 stars (Some good ideas, but not the best.) - This is a good book, but it is not one of the best. Get copies of Kotter, Schein, Beitler, or Collins' books. 5 stars (An Excellent How To Guide on Managing/Creating Change.) - I found the book to be extremely informative. Douglas Smith has done a masterfull job of creating a step by step guide for the process of both Creating and Managing Change in any organization. He also points out why many Change Efforts fail. The 10 step guide that he has created should help us all avoid the common pitfalls of this process and help greatly improve our odds of success. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is either thinking about starting a change effort or currently in the midst of one now. 5 stars (The best hand-on book about Change Management available.) - This is clearly the best book about the practical side of Change Management I've read so far (and I've read more then 20 by now). Getting to Yes- Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In

4 stars (A Classic that has been superceded.) - Getting to Yes started a revolution in negotiation, both by stressing principled negotiation and in making the material accessible to a very wide audience. It is still a good read, is still taught in universities and continuing education, and is an excellent starting point for people who are new to negotiation but intend a deep study because of its historical significance and its content. However, having taught Getting to Yes and having used principled bargaining in practice, I think there are a few shortcomings that are dealt with in other books. While Fischer and Ury do make the point that principled bargaining includes sticking to your priciples and not being a pushover, it is not emphasized enough. I have even found myself being too cooperative after reviewing this text because the emphasis is on being cooperative. I think this is a partcular danger for new/lay negotiators, especially if this is the first text they're exposed to or they intend to practice these concepts in daily life. The tone of the book is just a bit too friendly. As a result, there has been a backlash (wrongly, in my opinion) against this text in some quarters. The verbal judo section at the end is excellent, giving techniques for dealing with unreasonable people that are great. I would've liked more of these very practical tips and examples to go along with them, but the book as a whole is already a lot to digest. Newer versions of GTY do add more material here. Newer texts take these problems into account. The best, in my opinion, is the follow-on by Ury, "Getting Past No." It can be read without having read "Getting to Yes," although it is very interesting as a follow-on, too. 1 stars (A book for graduates--Not undergrads) - After the first week of our class falling behind, my professor mentioned to our class that this book was the wrong format for undergrads. So this book is only good as the teacher and the students. It's easy to read, but hard to understand. And, the CD-ROM was not user-friendly enough, but had an awesome integration into MS Excel. I aced all of my math classes in college (undergrad), but this class...I'm not gonna to ace. But if you aced all math classes and you're using this book for a grad class, then go for it. Leadership on the Line- Staying Alive Through the Dangers of Leading

5 stars (Packed with Knowledge!) - Leadership isn't easy. The best leaders force their followers to face unpleasant realities and then figure out the solutions for themselves. That's why leadership is so risky, argue Ronald A. Heifetz and Marty Linsky in this engaging tome. The authors analyze the successes and failures of leaders ranging from Yitzhak Rabin to Bill Clinton, with stops along the way to examine the leadership styles of former Coca-Cola CEO M. Douglas Ivester and NBA coach Phil Jackson. At times, the authors' rules of thumb seem too general. Yet, their real-world examples blend well with their leadership theory to present a useful guide to leadership. 4 stars (Great Book!) - GAAP is very hard to understand if it is not in laymen's terms. This book is great at "translating" the prounouncements. 4 stars (Very useful + PMBOK must - Passed exam) - Yes this book is good. But ONLY in conjunction with PMBOK guide. The Inputs/Tools/Outputs are not that intuitive in Rita's book. I had several questions that I could answer only with PMBOK's knowledge. 5 stars (Easy to Understand) - Good study guide that is easy to read. Nice sample questions at the end that can help prepare one for the exam. 4 stars (Found it very useful for PMP Prep) - Initially I did not buy this book when I was starting PMP preparation. When I heard about the Book and CD in many forums, I was curious to try it out. The book and CD together turned out to be very useful, even through I wouldn't say those were essential for my prep work. The CD comes with 1300 questions, which gave a whole lot confidence after trying out. The prices are bit high though. I also used Andy Crowe book and lots of reference on PMI web site. Thank you! 4 stars (weLEAD Book Review ...) - Yukl uses his expertise and credibility to write an outstanding book focusing on managerial leadership rather than social or parliamentary leadership. He attempts to include information on both the theory and practice of leadership in modern organizations. This valuable text also includes many recommendations and guidelines for improving the effectiveness of managers and leaders. The book includes a number of cases in an attempt to help the reader understand real world organizational problems and applications. This is a book that is primarily written and mostly reads like a college text book and is indeed used by a number of universities in their managerial or leadership programs. However, it is easy to read and does an excellent job of including the most informative and relative literature, studies and theories available today. 3 stars (It's... OK.) - The presentation of this book is excellent; It holds the reader's interest quite well. However, despite a recent "update", it shows it's age when the author regularly goes off on dot-com tangents, bringing the internet up in contexts that I believe the last few years have proven are not viable. Good grief, ppl. This isn't freaking 1997! We need a business text, not the wet dreams of a bunch of computer geeks turned businessmen! Anyways, if you are looking for a text with a lot of depth, look elsewhere. This book is to business textbooks what Quickbooks(c)(R)(TM) is to accounting software. In short, don't waste your money, unless you need it for a class. If so, be happy. Mary Ellen Guffey has done ALL the hard work! Juicy, readable text: done. Riveting "inside" information on cool corporations: done. Web-based support? Manuals? PowerPoints? Videos? Done. The book is divided into four parts: Part 1 - Personal Skills Part 2 - Interpersonal Skills Part 3 - Group Skills Part 4 - Specific Communication Skills Part 1 starts with developing self-awareness, then discusses managing personal stress, and concludes with approaches to solving problems analytically and creatively. Part 2 starts with coaching, counseling, and supportive communication, then discusses gaining power and influence, motivating others, and concludes with managing conflict. Part 3 starts with empowering and delegating, then building effective teams and teamwork, and concludes with leading positive change. Part 4 is a series of helpful supplements and appendices on making oral and written presentations, conducting interviews, and an extremely useful section on conducting meetings based upon material by John Tropman from the University of Michigan.
