5 stars (A Must for Every Parent and Teacher) - This book absolutely transformed my relationship with my difficult teenager. We had been stuck in a pattern of disappointment and poor school performance for years. This book was the missing ingredient and now his father and I are proud and completely hopeful for a boy who was headed down the wrong path. 5 stars (Busymomof4) - My oldest son is 17 and has been displaying defiant and baffling behavior since he was in 2nd grade. We have been to numerous counselors and psychologists, and no one could ever explain his behavior to me. He is an under-energized kid with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and now in drug treatment. THANK YOU HOWARD GLASSER, for the first time I feel like I understand my kid and I have a direction to go in when he finishes treatment. I have three other children, who are not currently experiencing any difficulty, but are all highly energetic. My 4-yr old is eerily similar in lots of ways to his big brother. I am using the positive remarks and it has worked tremendously in the last few days to help reduce bad habits like screaming in the car, leaving the dinner table continuously, and ignoring directions. I feel absolutely wonderful and optimistic that I can handle my older teenager now. 5 stars (The greatest book on parenting ) - This book teaches you a new way of life in a busy world with our kids. 2 stars (this reference book was all marked up!) - While the seller tells me the item was described as having some marks--I don't think I would have bought a reference book that was riddled throughout with nonsensical highlights and pencil markings. 2 stars (not recommended) - I would not recommend this book as a good source to learn more about ADD or ADHD. Although it was somewhat interesting to read about the life experiences of others, it really did not offer useful coping skills. I also felt like it was geared more towards adults who had not recognized their problems until much later in life and the havoc undiagnosed ADD can cause in your life. Some of the other books I have read also give a few examples which are helpful in recognizing and understanding your child and their problems, but they also offer good coping skills for you and for your child. 5 stars (Driven to Distraction) - I loved this CD, it gave me insight into a disorder/condition that affects several people I care very deeply about. It explained how they can be some of the brightest and most stubborn people on the planet. I recommend it highly. ... 5 stars (WOW!!) - I am a 41 year old woman.. stay home Mom with four kids. I have been incredibly disorganized and frustrated for many years and was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD. I decided to do some research to learn more about natural cures and basic understanding of this condition.. and this book has been awesome!! I have already changed things in my life.. from the ideas in the book.. I would say this is a MUST READ for anyone diagnosed with ADD or with a child with ADD... AWESOME BOOK!! 5 stars (Delivered From Distraction) - This book is so helpful and right on target with advice and solutions. The additional concepts and information it provides for people with ADD is just great. 5 stars (Practical tips in a highly readable narrative!) - Just finished reading this excellent followup book to Driven to Distraction. Dr. Hallowell has included his best suggestions from over 20 years of practice as well as his personal experiences with ADD. Unlike many of the ADD titles, this book is written with adults in mind, but it will also be helpful to parents of ADD children. Many of the chapters are extremely short. Dr. Hallowell emphasizes that you don't even have to read the whole book (but I couldn't put it down). You can start at the beginning or pick out any chapter that seems relevant to you - this strategy is perfect for adults with ADD and for the busy people who love them. This good-humored book discusses the current spectrum of medications and training techniques with an emphasis on day-to-day coping by building upon the many positive traits of those with ADD. ... 3 stars (Important concept, but, badly written book) - The concept is important and the author shows good understanding of optimal experience, i.e., what are the prerequisites, what goes on, what do people feel when they are in flow and the analysis of all of it. Credit goes to the author for all these. But, there are too many awfully written paragraph that will make you wonder if you are wasting time with this book. Especially, initially where it's too verbose and preachy. I guess it badly needs one more (better) editing. 3 stars (Marginal) - My primary complaint is the anoying music between each track. However, it also seemed like it was a very light treatment of the material. This could easily be due to the nature of abridged audio books. But, I would not recomend the audio book. 5 stars (Flow away) - Cziskszentmihalyi introduces an experiential concept that he calls "Flow". He suggests that this experiential state is intricately related to our happiness and explores the central factors that are associated with the phenomena. By comparing various examples of moments of "Flow" and others not of "Flow", the author provides an in depth investigation into this subjective state of mind. Some of the author's scientific research on this topic is also discussed. It is clear that the author is onto something very interesting and important just from the fact that this concept has crept into many books on Psychology in the past few years. The writing is not too technical and is understandable for people who are not experts in the field. Highly recommended! [...] ...
