2 stars (Splendid graphics, but...) - Ok, I'll start with the graphics. I have high end PC (AMD 64-bit 3500+, Radeon X800XT 256mb, S-ATA Western Digital, 2 GB RAM) and there were no troubles with running the game at highest settings. The game is really beautiful - there are flying birds, crocodiles, the terrain is funny when you zoom on it. But for me this is the only good thing in the game. For example, why the **** you need that animated traveling steam engine? It does not change anything in the game. Only increases the lag in the game... You have many nations to choose from, but the final result is the same upgrades, almost the same units. I and one mate of me played the game over the LAN. He was with the Russians, me with the English guys. Practically, the only difference was that the Russians speak in Russian... I don't think that having the home town is big advantage. About the maps - I did not find random generated maps, which for me is big issue. I want to play every time on different maps. This gives me much more fun than to play on a map that I already know. And finally, when I wanted to uninstall the game it took me a lot of time just waiting to initialize uninstalling process. The whole process took about 3 minutes! In general the game lost the feeling of its predecessors. I don't feel it like AoE II. BTW, the same is with the EA II. For me much better are AoE II and the first EA. So, I'm going to sell my copy of AoE III and keep playing Empires Dawn of the Modern World. 4 stars (Not bad at all!) - I was a little antsy about picking up this title. A lot of the reviews are extremely mixed and offered up a wide variety of pros and cons for this game. I became a hard boiled fan of AOE1 way back when it first came out and you'd often find me facing off with friends via LAN while my Phonecian war elephants ran amok through their ranks. AOE2 was even better, allowing better tactics for your infantry and cavalry as well as great seige equipment and castles. So ... 5 stars (More like Halo than Doom.) - Doom 3 is my favorite FPS of all time, due to the atmosphere and total immersion. Quake is nothing like this. Half Life 2 was good if you like long stretches of boredom with small spurts of easy combat. Quake is better than this. While I had hoped Quake 4 would be based on the original Quake, a game which was the Doom 3 of its time as far as scary atmosphere, and the Counterstrike of its time as far as multiplayer, Quake 2 served as a suitable base for the game. Quake is an action game, pure and simple. It is very immersive in the war against the Strogg, and reminds me a lot of a more adult, mature, and bloody halo. Lots of Baddies, great vehicles, linear, and even better weapons. The storyline is good enough, with some twists here and there. People love to whine about the AI, well you dont need good AI when you have like 5 ppl attacking at once from different directions. Whats the point? Your squadmates have the best AI I've ever seen. Graphics are unbelievable if you have a good system, but there is no darkness to hide the flaws if you have a mediocre system. Doom 3 runs much better than Quake. Multiplayer is a quake 3 clone + lag, dont buy it for that. Half life 2's engine is so much better for multiplayer. So if you like an overrated doom 3 clone system hog with japanese-style horror over the red white and blue gore of ID software, buy F.E.A.R. If you like non linear games, buy Far Cry. If you like boring puzzle games that mix shooting with Tetris, but Half Life 2. And if you like Halo style action + a hard edge, buy Quake 4 . 4 stars (Not to be compared to Doom 3. An amazing game from the masters.) - First off let me say that I'm very, very tired of people who trash a game like this for a few reasons: 1.) they focus too much on graphics, 2.) they compare it to similar games which have a different focus, and 3.) they show no reverence for the people who paved the way for one of the best genres in the business. 5 stars (Global Warming, evolution incommensurable issues ) - I found this to be an eloquent but flawed indictment of the ways in which conservatives are doing an endrun around science to promote their various agendas. But as a science supporter, but a Darwin critic, I was a little alarmed by the bad advice the author received from the very peer review bodies he promotes. The problem is that, for example, global warming, about which the book is excellent, and evolution, the most confusing of the issues, are not really in the same category. We can demand science on the issue of global warming, and expose conservative fraud, but if we demand science on evolution, then we should subject the current reign of Darwinian theory to scrutiny, there to find that, as theory, its scientific status is open to question. The behavior of creationists is a very distracting noise here, because it drives science defenders further into dogma, and into a hole. The author shows how relying on the standard sources of science advice, like the NCSE, will simply fill your head with the Darwinian boilerplate syndrome, which, whatever else their failings, the rightwing critics are well aware of. Having studied Darwinian theory carefully from the suppressed science critics they realize that they can trump the wrongly educated Dawkins/science generation. It seemed impossible ten years ago, now it's happening. Time to wake up on Darwin's theory, which means accepting the reality of evolution, but looking critically on the theory of natural selection. Science journalists ought to learn to be skeptical of the failed peer review system in biology and evolution. It's going to be the undoing of science, and one dreads to think what the next ten years will bring. Beyond that, many of the other issues raised make for an insightful expose, it is a pity the author is suckered into the Darwin trap. 5 stars (Global warming, evolution incommensurable issues. ) - I found this to be an eloquent but flawed i... 3 stars (Deja Vu) - Pros- The free roaming is quite good, The bert slide is a fun addition, Slightly improved graphics, Classic Mode, (If you've played the other 6 (like me), you're gonna buy it simply because it's more challenges to do) Cons- No edit tricks option in story mode, NO EDIT TRICKS OPTION IN STORY MODE, A bit same old, The embarrassingly bad Jackass- style humour, Still no replays, Having to go to shops to get stat challenges, Long bland corridors connecting the areas slightly diminishes the "whole city with no loading times" effect, Easier than previous games on Sick Mode, oh yeah and NO EDIT TRICKS OPTION IN STORY MODE- what a ridiculous oversight 4 stars (Pretty Good) - Even though you can tell the makers of this game rushed to get it out on time, without checking all the bugs. I have to say that i really enjoyed this game. I have only rented it, but it was sooo fun. I love these kind of games though, the kind that make you think real fast on what you should do next. If you've liked the THUG series i know for a fact that you will enjoy this. I like the new NO LOADING SCREENS thing too, it's alot more fun. THUG 2 blowed, but this game makes up for it! 3 stars (An OK game, but way too many defects) - I'm glad on renting this game for money's sake. It isn't worth past 35 bucks. This game is fun, but with way too many things messed up. These things include the diffculty, in which they expect you to pull off a 10,000 point combo as the 2nd or 3rd mission. This is especially difficult to those who are new to this. Also this is a big downgrade from THUG and THUG2 in graphics, and story. The Create a Modes are figgin' sweet, more if you have an EyeToy to put your self in the game. So unless your a hard-core Tony Hawk fan, rent it first. ... 5 stars (Better than the Oxford Blackfriars) - Of course, the Oxford Blackfriar's 60-volume edition would bankrupt most of us by it's sheer expense. But if one wants an English translation opposite the Latin original, it's certainly the reference work that many scholars prefer. For the rest of us, the English Dominican Fathers' translation of the early 20thC. is very, very good indeed. It's single virtue is that the same translation of words is used consistently throughout, even if the particular choice of words might not strike 21stC. readers in quite the same way. Some of the language is beginning to show its wear and tear, but once one is in the mindset, the reading is exceptionally clear. For those new to Aquinas, his methodology may strike some readers as odd. It's really a simple, yet elegant, system. First, Aquinas poses a question to be answered. Then he gives a variety of answers from others in the past. When you see, "but I reply," then you know you're getting to nugget of Aquinas' gems. After his reply, he responds to each of the previous author's opinions, stating why or how they are in any way deficient. Several features become instantly obvious. Aquinas had an encyclopedic mind and a good knowledge of Patristic and Aristotlean thought. Whenever possible, his answers are an a priori synthesis of the best Patristics and the best of Aristotle. These five, dense volumes in this edition illustrate the majestic scope of his enterprise. (His Summa Contra Gentiles is very similar.) There isn't really a subject or vantage that Aquinas doesn't cover. All his Summas are really magisterial (in the non-ecclesiastical sense). Lastly, Aquinas' command of the syllogism is unparalleled in human history. This is at once both its strength and its weakness. Strength in the sense of deductive logic, weakness in the sense of inductive logic. I'm convinced one can use the syllogism to argue just about anything, and if Aquinas is an example, he's an example of this mastery... 5 stars (I'm using it to enter this, works good!) - it works really well for me I'm using it right now to enter this I do have to go back and correct things every now on than and it doesn't work good for my Dad. in fact it works horrible! but keeps getting better and bet DidDidme! we did had some problems installing it and we had to download a update because there was a problem with it originally. but for me and my Mom it works great!!! 5 stars (Really Pleased!) - I am really pleased with iListen. I am an investigator and have begun using iListen to dictate my interview summaries. It has lived up to my expectations. The enrolling process of learning your voice has been effective as has the correction process (though the correction process is fairly time consuming). I have also created a profile to use with my Olympus voice recorder, which is working fairly well too. The only draw back is the difficulty that the program has in recognizing last names, but I expect that will improve with usage. The training manual is worth printing out so that you can use it as a reference while you're dictating. I also had excellent customer service as the CD Rom that came with the package was defective. The company e-mailed me a downloadable version of the program within a day. 1 stars (iListen does not run on Mac OS X 10.3.9) - Just an awful product. Go through all the training and then the damn thing wont load. It givs you a kern_protection-error which is absolutely indecipherable. Probably the single worst product I have ever purchased. ... 4 stars (Must Have) - For Harry Potter Fans a complete pack of the games to date...i loved playing them and can't wait for HP4 game to arrive 5 stars (Awesome entertainment value, great for kids and adults who play along with them) - My 7 year old daughter and I have been searching for a good computer game to play ever since we finished up 101 Dalmations on the PC more than a year ago. I've read her the first three Harry Potter books, and then discovered this collection. It is a big winner. You get four different games (which each originally sold for the cost of this collection, or more). We finished the Sorcerers Stone in about two weeks of evening play. It has plenty of play value to get us to go back, mainly to find the hidden secrets we did not find the first time, and to play some better games of Quiddich. We have just begun playing the Chamber of Secrets. Everything about this one is an upgrade from Sorcerer's Stone: smoother play, more spells, more hidden areas, new activities, new features. We are enjoying it immensely. Some kids are game fanatics, and can handle the controls alone. Another reviewer was correct, a game controller makes these much easier. My daughter and I share the controls when we play together. In these games, she takes the mouse to cast spells and direct Harry's point of view, I work the arrow keys to move us around. We have quite a lot of fun together this way. The games feature the same story line and content as the books. Expect the same (very low) violence level as the books. So I'm giving this bundle 5 stars based on just games. Heck, I would have given it 4 stars for the Sorcerer's Stone alone, or 5 stars for the Chamber of Secrets alone. This is a super value. 4 stars (Great for ages 12 and below) - Some interesting puzzles and basically user friendly. My grand kids and I play it alot. ...
