Earn the millions of billions you deserve in this planetary trading game. To build your economic empire you'll have to choose the most profitable goods, navigate the quickest paths between the revolving planets and invest in the right planetary structures at the right time. Roxio Toast 7 Titanium Mac

5 stars (Roxio Toast 7 Titanium (MAC)) - This is a great product, has some nice new features like making a Music CD, CD-Text. 4 stars (much needed improvement) - After using Toast 5 & 6 for a while I received version 7 with great anticipation. Installation is as easy as it gets, and the interface (while hardly changed form v6) is intuitive. One of the best enhancements I've encountered so far is the use of hybrid discs. In the past, the only option was "Custom Hybrid", which didn't always work. This option still exists, but the new, simpler hybrid Mac/PC format (while giving slightly less custom options on the Mac side) is finally dead simple - choose the files you want and designate if they should be burned for Mac, PC or both by using checkboxes. Other new features include improved DVD burning and backing up many files or one large file over several discs, while still being able to acess them one by one. The price is not too bad and a $20 rebate is available for previous owners. I recommend it. 5 stars (For video-philes!) - Quite simply, there's no other single program out there that will do so much. Here's just one example to add to those mentioned by other customers. It's great to be able to combine movie titles from DVD backups( from saved TS folders on my harddrive ), multiple iMovie projects, DivX and original DV footage on one disc. Then, I saved the whole as an oversized disc image and use DVD compression to fit it onto a single DVD! The program offers a choice of several menu themes that are artistic and easy to navigate. Then, I used the disc spanning feature to backup some (huge!) DV source files to multiple DVDs. ...

Quicken Deluxe 2006 Mac

4 stars (Another small set of improvements) - Of late I have been skipping years between Mac Quicken upgrades, and even doing that, find relatively little changed each time. Perhaps that is why Intuit is happy to force stragglers forward by restricting online banking features to recent releases (although as software developer myself, I do understand the support and maintenance arguments as well). The 2006 release continues in this vein, but I do feel it was a worthwhile investment on its own merits. My credit union has paid the "Mac tax" Intuit requires in order for their online banking features to interoperate with Quicken, so I am lucky enough to be able to use them. And they work very well. The one-step-update and downloaded transaction windows look nicer and are more responsive compared to the 2004 version, and have some useful new features. For example, the downloaded transactions window's dropdown menu for choosing an online account now provides a visual indication of which accounts contain new transactions. This saves a lot of time in conjunction with one-step updates. The new flexibility in scheduling calendar-based transactions is useful too. There were things (like my direct-deposit paychecks) which previously couldn't automatically be assigned the right dates. Now they can, and it was easy to fix them. I'm less impressed with the much hyped "backup to .Mac" feature, however. It's perhaps helpful for people who lack a backup strategy for all their important documents (such as the Backup program which comes with .Mac), but it pales by comparison with what it could and should be: Quicken should take advantage of the Sync Services offered by Tiger and .Mac to let you synchronize your Quicken accounts between multiple computers. I should not have to care whether I'm on my PowerBook at work or my PowerMac at home; transactions I enter in either place should appear on the other. Instead, I can only run Quicken at home and sync with Pocket Quicken on my Treo. ...

Adobe Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Mac from Photoshop Any Version

3 stars (Not _exactly_ true...) - Yes, Photoshop CS2 is a stellar product. But before you spend your money, visit the Adobe site and make sure the Upgrade will work with your version of Photoshop. (It will most definitely not work with "Any Version") 5 stars (CS2 comments) - I have been using and upgrading Photoshop since version 2.5. Photoshop CS2 (Version 9) has been the best upgrade thus far. I am using the raw converter with great results. I just tried the Capture One Pro from Phase One, and did not like it as much for numerous reasons. There are a lot of new features that I find to be of great use from a photographic point of view. 5 stars (Terrific Service !!) - The response was very fast. The item came as advertised. It works on my MAC G4 very nicely. ...

X-PLANE V8 Mac

5 stars (Learning to fly with the simulator) - I am a single engine pilot, but haven't flown for 20 years. I think the Simulator is easy to understand. I am having problems using the joystick so tried the mouse. When I click on the windshield and pull the arrow down it has no effect on the plane. Maybe as I become more familiar with the computer, I will do better. I am anticipating many joyful flying sessions when I get this mastered. 4 stars (X-plane 8.0 - Rule the world with it) - When I got it from the factory. All I got it the DVD in a plastic holder and that's it. No box, no instruction book. Nothing. I had to get into the program and find out how to fly planes (X and otherwise) on my own. All I got this game for wa to train actor on Boeing 777 on a Mac, before we got them in flight simulators up in Seattle. But this game turned into much more. If you can run up a B-52, take-off, circle and land; you can fly anything. I've landed a B-52G twice. But think crash. Not don't crash. What does the load vectors do. Will it take-off with four engines. What if all engines shut do on take-off? Crash land. Anyway. That's $100,000+ flight training at Alteon in Seattle (a private flight training company) for $50. Which you want to pay? Some of the flight sims are a pain, like the X-15. Even if you load Edwards AFB or even Denver, you end up over water or desert that I have no idea where I am. The Space Shuttle is even worst. But the MOST DIFFICULT plane to fly is the Cessna 172. You end up side ways, when you an at V1. And by the time you at V2, you're screwed. Commit, pull up and take-off. You're in the air or you've crashed. Mike Rossi Have fun!!!! 5 stars (Xplane is great!) - X-Plane 8 is the latest and greatest in the long-venerable series of what is arguably the world?#s best flight simulator. X-Plane is not really a ?#game?#, so to speak. It is a very realistic flight simulator with all sorts of bells and whistles and more aircraft, ai...

Microsoft Word 2004 Mac

4 stars (Good Quality, took too long) - Word program is excellent. It has many easy to use features, including tool bars. However, I had to wait for quite a while to receive the rpoduct. After checking my order status, which showed that it had been delivered, I had to wait another 5 days before I actually received it. I would order this product directly from Macintosh. 5 stars (Microsoft has Done Word Processing Right) - It is hard to find anything bad to say about this program, except that it is slow as molasses on my G3 iBook. However it zips along on my gal pal Sara's G5 iMac. I mean it flies. And there is nothing you cannot do with it, from formatting a book (who needs PageMaker or Quark anymore), to writing a screen play. You can change the menus to anything you want, for example Sara has four font menus. You can save your stuff as a pdf document and your pdf opens exactly like it was in Word and I mean exactly. But, as I said, it's too slow on my older iBook, so I use the previous version of Word instead and the excellent NisusWriter WP (for Mac only). Word will open anything. The dictionary is pretty good, but the thesaurus could maybe be better. No, it could definitely be better. But here I'm nitpicking, probably because it's hard for way left leaning me to admit that Microsoft got something right. And about my iBook being too slow to run this elegant program, maybe, just maybe it's time I sprung for one of those new nifty PowerBooks with the glow in the dark keyboard. Whoohoo. Jack Priest, Sailor Home from the Sea 3 stars (incremental improvements) - Despite all the touted improvements in this latest version of MS Word for the Mac, experienced Word users should consider carefully before plonking down for it. The chances are that if you are comfortable running an earlier version on your Mac, then there is little need to migrate. Though I'll grant that one new feature is appealing. The ability to avoid the automatic corrections and numbering does ind...

Roxio Boom Box - Essential Software for your iPod Mac

5 stars (Great bunch of apps at the right price) - I was pretty excited as soon as I heard about this product and got it right away. Audio Hijack - works perfectly as advertised. I've been using this to record music from VH1.com to fill my library and I figured out also how to use it to record the soundtrack from music DVDs and from iTunes. It's brain dead easy to use and the quality is good. MusicMixer - after a pretty lengthy amount of time it had scanned my library. I have about 5000 songs and it took over 4 days. But it was worth the wait - it definitely makes some smart choices and groups songs that sound good together. Spin Doctor - I haven't tried this one yet - but my father has a bunch of stuff he's hounding me to try it out with. Seems like a good addition. iPodder - I like this one. Fits really well with iTunes and there's a ton of interesting stuff to fill my commute time now. Speech software - I don't really have a need for this one and the voices are a bit corny - although there's a coupon on the disc for better voices from another company. All in all I'm happy with this purchase. Unlike the previous reviewer who seems to have a personal vendetta against the music industry I'll focus on this product. Roxio certainly does not hide that these are products that have been available for a while from other developers - what Roxio brings together is 5 great apps for the right price. The Mixer is $30 by itself. AudioHijack is $16. iPodder is $24. Speech is $16. None of them are free - contrary to what the previous reviewer says. If you bought them all separetly you'd spend alot more - so even if you only use a few of the apps you're coming out ahead. Ignore the crazies and focus on the software and you won't be disappointed. It really does make your iPod better. 2 stars (Software is available elsewhere for free, Music Magic Mixer is disabled.) - When I heard that Roxio was making this software suite, I was thrilled and the reviews were gr...

Apple Final Cut Express HD Mac

5 stars (Great Program!!) - This is a great program for your mac... I've used it in a film class the previous year and it took me a year to really get the hang of it. Because it has no tutorial I recomend you find someone who has used this and get them to give you a few lessons. 4 stars (Just starting out -- and it's daunting, but feature rich.) - I've used iMovie for several projects over the last year and a half and decided to upgrade to Final Cut Express HD when working on video of my wife's niece's wedding. Apple sells it as an a step up in features from iMovie, but -- wow! -- it give you a lot more flexibility but at a huge cost in complexity too! The Apple magic of making something simple enough to let you concentrate on the creativity and not the mechanics of the project seems missing here. IMPORTANT: An employee at the Apple Store near me confided to me that there is very little difference between Final Cut Pro HD and Final Cut Express HD. The extra $700 for the Pro version allows outputting your movie in broadcast quality -- if you don't need that, he said, you can save $700 and buy the Express version. I had just seen the employee give a short in-store class on Final Cut Pro and he said I could do EVERYTHING he did in the class EXACTLY the same way in Final Cut Express! He said the only way you could tell which is which is by the name in the menu bar! (Maybe this is common knowledge in the Final Cut Pro/Express community, but I couldn't find out exactly what was different on Apple's website.) IMPORTANT: There is NO TUTORIAL included for Final Cut Express -- and if you've never worked with "pro" video editing software, you'll probably need to buy a how-to book. I'm currently reading the Peachpit Press "Final Cut Express" book by Lisa Brenneis (ISBN: 0-321-35026-X). There are a few scattered examples in the online help, but I haven't tried them yet.... 2 stars (Unduly complex, hideous browser) - After experiencing virtually every editing product ...

Lego Star Wars DVD Mac

1 stars (returning it) - This game is very machine specific..I ordered it for my grandson's birthday and have to return it because the Mac at his house is not the right one for this game. A great disappointment. The technology exists to make things more diverse & be compatible with many computers...this game isn't. 1 stars (Lego Star Wars for Mac by aspry) - Does not work on a normal G4 iMac. Must have a G4 PowerMac or better. Recommended is a G5!!! 4 stars (A good distraction) - Okay, so I would've given this game three and a half stars, but I had to bump it up to four... oh well ;-) Anywho, I would say most of all that this game is a good distraction. Huge Star Wars fans (of which I am a party to) will really enjoy the details and references and the unlockables in this game - which will allow you to finally get to a point where you can kill Jar Jar Binks in the fighting mode (snicker, snicker...). The game play is simple and easy, yet there are definite problems with some of the controls and camera angles, which are OFTEN jerky and awkward, causing repeated falls down cliffs and blaster shots to the plastic behind, dropping down your cutesy little life hearts to zero before you can even turn to face your stubby attacker. Altogether, the cute little figures and neat-o weapons and unlockables (including droids! oh, dozens and dozens of useless droids...) fail to really make up for the crappy gameplay. I would say, if you're a Star Wars fan, shell out the forty and pick it up for a nice 3-5 hour distraction. If not - well, then, don't. ...

Route 66 Route USA 2004 Mac

4 stars (It works with OSX Tiger, but...) - Seller says this doesn't work with Tiger, but it works. All GPS road map doesn't give the shortest route and this is no exception. Mine came bundled with a GPS receiver that I was surprised worked very well. I just wish I can just install US roads without installing Canada and other non-essential that takes up hard drive space and slows down the search. I'm sure Canadians would want the same if they want to use this and not have to install US info unless they want to. Could be made simpler and faster intuitive locate of streets. I don't need every thing that says San Antonio like a bake shop when I am looking for the city map of San Antonio or just a street. 2005 is almost over and I don't see any updates on their website. Overall I would give this a nod if you want to bring your iBook or PB and use it as a GPS road map, otherwise, spend an extra $300 and get a handheld black and white screen GPS. 1 stars (Embarassing) - Route 66 should hang their developer heads in shame for putting this product out. The app seems to be a bare minimum port from its Windows version. The first indication of this is the ugly port of the "help" contents (which are an obvious attempt at mimicking the Windows help system, via a Java applet) UI - No keyboard shortcut to go between zoom in/out and drag. No way to convert GPS coords to decimal, or to search by lat/lon. The UI is a clunky artifact of the mid-90's, if not before. Type in a search and hit return... nothing happens.. you have to click on "Find". Compare and contrast simple navigation to Google Maps! Case closed. Speed - I'm running on a 1.33 ghz PowerBook, with the most recent Route 66 patch. Using 16mb of cache (in the preferences) doesn't help much. This is 2005.. surely you would expect a dedicated app to outperform Google map. Not this one. I am not kidding when I say this is slow. You may say "well, run it on a dual processor G5!"... and I would counter with "I want...

Microsoft Office 2004 Standard Mac

3 stars (OK) - You should only get this if you really nead it ... unfortunately, you probably do. Although overall this is a fairly decent attempt by Microsoft to make something asthetically pleasing and Mac like, it is hampered by the usual Microsoft problems: 1. It keeps 'helping' you when you don't want it to. Although you can presumably turn most of these features off you probably wont have the time or inclination to find out how to. So you'll have the pleasure of being confronted by offers to create Powerpoint slides when you open up Word, have brackets turned into smilies as well as a host of other random edits and substitutions that are correct maybe 10% of the time. 2. It is bloated with features most of which still don't work correctly. I would say this is slightly worse than the Windows version. For instance, the bulleting and numbering seems to go wrong or randomly switch between styles more often and the styles and header numbering is even less stable. In addition to these standard MS problems they've managed to make the whole thing run really very slowly. I'm using a G4 Powerbook and Word cannot even always keep up with my moderate touch typing speed (i.e. there is a noticable lag between typing and words appearing). If you are editing a document with lots of numbering then you will notice delays in the order of seconds when, for instance, deleting selections - even small ones. Overall: a decent looking release hampered by the usual Microsoft problems and a general sluggishness. 1 stars (You Can't Teach a Tiger a New Word) - The current version of Office2004 is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TIGER!!! Microsoft Word will crash on you, and to a crippling degree. Do not buy this if you have a Mac, since you'll eventually upgrade to Tiger and Microsoft may or may not care enough to fix it. If you've got some sort of Microsoft addiction and intend to buy it anyway, you could always see if they've released a patch for it. Don't just take my word for it, check...

Railroad Tycoon 3 Mac

4 stars (Big price problem) - I would have ordered this game, but since the Macsoft store (U.S. only) sells it for 20 bucks there is no way you should be paying the price thay want here. Something is out of whack! 4 stars (Better than before) - After anxiously waiting for a Mac release of Railroad Tycoon 3, I find that it's a much-needed upgrade of Railroad Tycoon 2. However, that's really all it is -- I'd be tempted to call it Railroad Tycoon 2.5 rather than 3. There are probably enough changes to track building and industries to warrant a new version number, but other than that and a few interface changes, RT3 is essentially the same game as RT2. The most obvious difference is in the graphics. The new 3-D engine is fantastic. You can actually watch the side rods of most of the steam engines go round and round. Tracks are a bit high off the ground, which is a little distracting at first, but overall the graphics are a huge improvement. Track laying is substantially improved from the previous version of the game, as well. Most significant is the return of tunnels, one of the most maligned omissions in RT2. You can also build a bridge over another railroad or duck under an existing bridge, a feature fans of this game series have long wished for. Gone is the grid with its limitations of tracks at only eight angles. You can now create smooth, sweeping curves at any angle you please. That said, the gradients could use some tweaking. Particularly annoying are the ramps leading to bridges. It's silly to have a 3% grade just because you're crossing a river. Likewise, I found it very difficult to create a railroad in even slightly hilly terrain that didn't resemble a roller coaster. And don't think this is a model layout design aid, either. It's impossible to force tracks to go where you want them. Maintenance shops and service towers are now separate elements. You can't place a service tower at a depot and have a locomotive serviced while it's making its station stop. ...

SOHO Business Cards Mac

1 stars (DOESN'T WORK!) - It says it does "double-sided" and "folding" cards right on the back of the box. There are no "double-sided" or "folding" card instructions not even in their PDF manual downloaded from their site. The ONLY way to get any help is through their discussion boards that they say they will respond to in one day. Good luck. When I copied in my logo, it stuck right in the center and spread to the edges closest to it. Couldn't select it, move it, resize it, nothing. None of the basic shapes that you can copy, squares, circles, etc. worked. I WILL FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO USE! This is very frustrating and a complete waste of my $30 which by they way they won't refund OF COURSE! 1 stars (What You See Is NOT What You Get) - This is a one-trick pony which doesn't even perform its one trick well. I ordered Soho Business Cards software to replace my old Corel Print Office 2000 which wouldn't run on Mac OS X. However, it does not begin to compare with my old program. In Soho I can have my images aligned perfectly on the screen and they come out differently in print. On my cards I have a detail of a painting on the lefthand side with the title underneath, and then on the right I include several lines of contact information including my website address. The url is on the same horizontal plane as the title of the painting on my monitor, but creeps upward significantly when it's printed out, making it look very unprofessional. In addition, the color saturation and sharpness isn't as good as the older program's even though I'm using the same printer and Avery card stock. I emailed tech support and they took a long time responding. When I finally heard from them they said that they couldn't replicate the problem and asked me to send them the file I was having difficulty with. Because the file seems to be several MBs and I have a slow dialup connection I told them I couldn't do that. When I heard from them again they suggested that I try saving the file as ...

Call of Duty Mac DVD Rom

5 stars (CALL OF DUTY) - All out action holding one's attention and taxing one's skills for hours on end. A powerful adrenaline booster. All out fun and excitement. 5 stars (5 Stars Because I Can't Give It 6!) - Everyone is right--this is MOHAA the correct way. I'm still a big fan of MOH, but this is extremely fun. (Especially the zooming through the french countryside in a "tin can" car. What a hoot!) In defense of MOH--and although I don't know this to be the case--I would guess that MOH is easier on your system than COD. COD's graphics and sounds are UNEQUALED, so you need a beefy system to get the most out of it. (I'm running a G5 with a hefty video card.) So, in a nutshell, this game rocks. I was skeptical of the 50 buck pricetag, but as soon as I post this review, I'm headed over to buy the expansion pack. It's that good. Trust me. 5 stars (Awesome Mac Game) - This is a superb game. It runs smoothly on my mac (Powerbook G4 867, 640 RAM) most of the time, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have much below that. There's a wide variety of weapons and battle scenarios, and you fight as American and British paratroopers, and as a Russian sniper. They have obviously taken a lot of the battle scenes, landscapes, and plot ideas from Band of Brothers and Enemy at the Gates, which is neat if you've seen those. Unlike a lot of shooters you don't just run around and shoot everything in sight, in fact playing cowboy will just get you killed most of the time. You have to work with your squad to accomplish your objectives, and when someone tells you to cover them you damn well better, otherwise you're going to find yourself exposed and without backup later in the mission. My only complaint is that it is too short, I beat the game within 2 or 3 days. But, it's fun to go back and replay missions, and after you've finished with the original there's still an expansion pack and multi-player mode. If you're looking for a solid, fun, and realistic looking war game this is...

Tiger Woods 2005 Mac

2 stars (Not Happy With Tiger Woods 2005) - I don't understand why they felt a need to customize the golfer, right down to the size of the golfer's nostrils! It seems like an awful waste of programming and unnecessary use of the computer's resources. Why not improve the graphics which were better in TW 2003? Tiger Woods 2003 is a much better game and more realistic. TW 2003 application was 4.1 MB's and 2005 is 7.8 MB's. Who cares about the size of a golfer's head, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, etc.? The graphics in TW 2003 were much better than TW 2005! ...
